Good news about Bally

Good news to spice the GB womens competition up even more next year

For Bally, apparently, to paraphrase Mark Twain, reports of her death are greatly exaggerated: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/tennis/article-2218615/Elena-Baltacha-scotches-rumours-retirement.html

It looked like a dead set retirement when she didn't go for the op straightaway, but time away from the match court appears to have rekindled an inner fire to get back there. Hopefully her body will allow her to get back there, great news.

Great news indeed, just hope the body behaves.

Will she be entitled to a protected ranking to play tournaments, like AK when she was out for 6 months a few years ago?

That's very good news, just think sometime next year we could have four or even five girls inside the top 100.

I know this isn't about Bally, but another article about one of our top players, this time JoKo.

Good on the Telegraph for that one; and hope that Johanna can consistently find close to her USO form next year.
All of a sudden, the media are falling over themselves to run GB Tennis stories, and about the women in particular. Funny that!
Given another woeful performance by our footballers today hopefully the papers will have lots of space to dedicate to sports that are actually performing.

Yes. She will be able to use a protected ranking for a maximum of 8 events during the 12 months after she returns (according to the 2012 WTA Tour Rulebook). Her PR will be about 100 so will get her into the slams.

I think you can only use your PR at one Slam?

 Correct Paul.

WTA Rulebook: "A player may enter a maximum of one (1) Grand Slam
using her Special Ranking as part of her eight (8) Special
Ranking Tournaments."

I'm guessing that will be US Open then, with Oz being too early, French would be a waste and surely she'd get a Wild Card for Wimbledon.

Although hopefully she'll be ranked high enough by August to get in directly for the US.
