Thanks very much DF for filling out both matches.

An expected win for Annie, had problems on serve again, but it's reasonably effective when it goes in. Still a win to to rebuild some confidence nevertheless, especially to get it done in 2, and the run of three games to close it out when up against it. Holding serve to stay in the set, breaking and serving it out.
Dushevina will be a different prospect altogether, harder than today, Zahlavova. The 2006 clash was their only meeting, on grass, 3& 1 to Vera.

As for Johanna, perhaps a bit of a missed opportunity after getting some good positions. But I think, as at the US Open, she's again demonstrated that she can compete with
players ranked ~50-100 - I'm not quite sure she entirely believes it quite yet though.

I had expected more of a kick on after Flushing Meadows, but she's clearly been laying groundwork for next year. Plenty are impressed with how hard she's been working on her fitness and movement.

Next year I think will see her edging ever closer to the magic 100, and maybe even getting in to the top reaches, though it may be around Wimbledon before it gets to that point. I look forward to seeing how she does in Barnstaple.

Good to see that Anne won again but tomorrow will be provide a much clearer sign of how well she is playing right now.

Good effort by JoKo and a shame she couldn't quite pull it off today.

As there is a lucky loser spot up for grabs in the main draw and Anne the highest lasting seed in the qualifying, whatever happens tomorrow she is in the main draw, but lets hope she still wins though!

Good news for Anne! She can relax tomorrow and hopefully find some form in a match where there is virtually nothing at stake.

If there is an LL spot available then it is the same situation as last year, when Anne lost knowing she was secure but did at least win a round in the main draw. However she lost out on the 16 extra points for a qualifier last year by that loss, so winning is definitely preferredsmile

Yes, I actually just noticed the other day that she only got 30 point sfrom Linz last year for winning R1 after losing in the FQR, but getting a LL spot.

I hadn't previously realised that if you won a main draw round as a LL you didn't get any qualifying points added, so potentially ( hopefully ! )  she is playing for all 16 qualifying points tomorrow. I guess it does concentrate the mind a bit more in such situations ( which should still be avoidable, but that's another matter.... )

I have to confess to a memory lapse with the above doh- it was Linz not Luxemburg where Anne got in as a LL - Luxemburg was the one where she qualified and reached the semis, pocketing the extra 16 points to boot.

Anne up first tomorrow at 9am BST
