Good to see Johanna step up to $220k level, and a good inital draw for her.
Petra Rampre 206 (CH: 151, Apr 2012)
Johanna leads the H2H 1-0 - Raleigh, 2010, Clay - 7-5 in the third. Johanna was higher ranked then, 343 to 397. Rampre's lost to players ranked 200-300 lots of times this year, on all surfaces - though they did include Torro-Flor & Oudin when they were lowly ranked.
The second round would be very tough though, as BMS has rediscovered some good form this week in Linz, playing for a spot in the SF later tonight, as she comes back from injury. Muguraza is very solid.
I'm not sure that it makes very much difference who Annie K's opponents are at the moment, so poor has her form been since Wimbledon. But, it's a good chance to get something going as she tries to defend her massive points haul from the end of the year.
Sandra Zahlavova 238 (CH: 78, June 2010)
She won a $25K in the Netherlands in September, but didn't play a player ranked ahead of her, beat a seed, or play anyone higher than 232 to do so.
Annie leads the H2H 3-1. But, the last meeting being on the Grass at Nottingham in 2010, was a straight sets victory for Zahlavova. Annie won both previous meetings on Hard courts though, including a qualie upset at the USO in 2007.
What odds on Johanna finishing the year GB #3 though?
Great read and analysis of our two players.
All I would say about Anne is when it comes to indoor tournaments and especially Luxembourg she does produce some great form and tennis from clips that I have seen. Im pretty sure Anne was in the same position last year as she was in a slump of form and then had an amazing run of tournaments starting at this one, so lets hope she can do it again.
Also good luck Jo, I seem to remember she has done well at the indoor tournament in Copenhagen for the last two years so seems to be a good indoor player aswell perhaps.
Also considering Anne has around 340 points to defend compared to Jo's 7 points, I think Jo will be most likely be GB No 3 by the year end (unless Anne comes into form)!

Anne is 3rd match up on Center after 09:30 start - that would be 08:30 UK time. About elevenses/lunchtime then. JoKo 5th up on court one. Schedule starting at the same time as center. Post lunchtime/Mid-afernoon-ish then at a guess.
Well after struggling for point after point with her 1st service percentage dropping to below 40% at one time she hung on with her 2nd serves and finally hit an ace followed by two more good 1st serves to take the game.
