The ATP Board also approved a trial elimination of the service let on the ATP Challenger Tour only, for the first three months of 2013.
Seems like a sensible development, although I can't imagine that the affect on the game will be that great (perhaps a slight increase in first serve percentage and a reduction in points won on the first serve.
Perhaps we will see the introduction of a serve that just hits the net and dribbles over.
Something to watch out for at the start of next year anyway.
The let rule has been going on in the NCAA for a number of years now, they've introduced this as in the lower levels players call their own outs. For example one of my friends who plays NCAA hit a clear ace and the other player will say 'Nah, that was a let' and the point is replayed, he says it does take time to get used to when it bounces funny off the net but overall it is better to not have the let rule in play.
I was just scanning through the thread titles quickly on the recent page, and had to scroll back up to this one when I misread it as 'Elimination of Nets' !
