No sign of JoKo, who was apparently on the original qualies list, <scissors>
Yes, I was looking forward to Johanna stepping up to a $220K, as she had remarked on Twitter on 20th September, after losing in Shrewsbury:
Home for a night before heading back to the ntc for 2 weeks training. Next up will be Linz!#trainingtime
Perhaps having seen the quality of the field she thought again about it.
She might try the Luxembourg event in week 42 instead?
She has just 6 points to defend until the end of the year, and has already made good progress this year, so maybe she's mostly focused on a hard training winter and an all out assault come January. If so, then there'd just be a few more, relatively, minor outings this year.
Good to see that Anne has recovered from injury. She has lots of points to defend in the coming weeks though so she needs to hit form quickly.
Yes. Though, I do hope she's not pushing it too soon because she know the huge totals she has to defend.
I fear a little for her, she's not won a match at all since Wimbledon.
Jeremy Bates insists she's playing really well, and is on the verge of something good. To be fair to her, she played very well in the second half (having been awful in the first set) of a spirited fightback I watched in Dallas against Erakovic, before allowing some very dubious line calls to rattle her towards the end and slide to defeat. Generally though, the signs haven't been great.
As for her chances of finishing the year in the top 100 for the fourth year out of the last 5; well, as far as I can see, perhaps The Royalettes said it best...
Anne may have only won 23% of points behind her second serve with 4 doubles, but that compares favourably to her opponent's 6 DFs and 18% points won on 2nd serve.
