Tie Break *0-0 1-0* 1-1* *2-1 First strike to Heather *2-2 Levelled up 2-3* 2 mini breaks in a row for AMG 2-4* *3-4 Back on serve *4-4 4-5* Possibly crucial mini for AMG there 4-6* 3 Set points, first on her own serve for Anabel... 4-7 Served out the set with an Ace
(4)6-7
Anabel seemed just the stronger in the set, and probably deserved in truth to win it, due to her more consistent pressure on the opponents serve. It was close though, and Heather came more in to it as the set went on, so there's hope for the second.
Both girls served very well statistically though - a full 13 game set of WTA tennis without a single double fault!

The, now customary, delay between sets - probably a trainer/toilet break; it's not especially hot in Osaka at the moment. And, we're back...
Game 1: Anabel holds, including another Ace, and 5/6 first serves.
*0-1
Game 2: First DF of the match by either player, brings up *15-15, and as Heather misses 4 1st serves in a row, AMG capitalises on the weaker 2nd serves to force 2 BP's at *15-40. Heather finds 2 1st serves to save the BP's, and better serving sees her eventually hold from the 2nd deuce.
Be very good to get some pressure on the AMG serve early in this set. i.e. now!
1-1*
Game 3: But, AMG's very strong all round serving performance continues, holding to 15
*1-2
Game 4: A good, love game from Heather.
2-2*
Game 5: Despite AMG first serves, Heather puts some pressure on at 15-0*, and 30-15*, and makes it tell to earn 2 BP's of her own at 40-15*. She takes the second chance, pulling a break out of nowhere. Good stuff.
*3-2
**Injury Break** (unhelpfully it's unspecified as to which player took it. It was very brief however, no longer than a usual change of ends.)
Game 6: Heather under pressure at *0-30 as Anabel seeks to break back. This becomes *15-40, and so two chances to immediately nullify Heather's break for the Spanish player. Heather fights them both off though by winning the next 4 points, to hold & consolidate.
4-2*
Game 7: Heather now with more pressure on the previously almost impregnable AMG serve, at 30-0*, helped by Anabel's first DF of the match. Three consecutive points for Anabel steady things for her before Heather forces a deuce, and then directly a BP chance. The one chance is all Watson needs to set up a commanding double break lead.
*5-2
I'm guessing then that the injury break was for Anabel, as her game has fallen off considerably since, but it might just be, and lewts hope it is this, Heathers brilliance.
Game 8: Heather to serve then to level the match and force a decider. 3 set points at *40-0... misses on the first two... there's no need to make it exciting now Heather. Thank you. Takes the third SP.
6-2
Strong set from Heather there, so much so that she now edges the match point split to date 66-63. We'll see what impact any injury implications have in the decider.

Set 3 Game 1: AMG serving first, and Heather, maintaining the regular pressure of set 2 on Anabels serve, gets a foothold at 30-15*, and climbs higher to 2 BP's at 40-15*. Misses both BP's despite 2nd serves on each. But, she forces another from deuce, and scales the summit, to break right away in set 3. *1-0
Game 2: Heather seemingly powering on now, holds to love in under 90 seconds.
2-0*
Game 3: AMG isn't done yet though, holding to 15.
*2-1
Game 4: Hold to 15 for Heather. Even if Anabel is injured, Heather has upped her game. This set, she is serving at 75% and winning 100% of 1st serve points.
3-1*
Game 5: In pursuit of a safety break, Heather gets 30-0*, but Anabel draws level with a first serve and an Ace. From 30-40* up though AMG serves 3 DF in the next four points (having only served up one in the rest of the match to that point), leading to 2 Watson BP's. Heather can't convert either though, and 2 more Aces along the way help AMG to finally hold from the 5th deuce - the longest game of the match so far, and a real mixed bag from Anabel!
*3-2
Game 6: Heather re-consolidates her break, to love; finishing it off with an Ace of her own.
4-2*
Game 7: Heather again builds some pressure, at 15-0* and 30-15*, she brings it to a boil at 40-15* and two more BP's - tempted to say virtual MP's, but lets be cautious. She takes the first, and will serve for the match. Go!
*5-2
