RE: Week 41 - WTA ($220K) - Osaka, Japan - Hard

Superb!  Hev really seems to have the wind in her sails in Osaka:

SF:  (4) Heather Watson & Kimiko Date-Krumm (JPN) WR 147 defeated (2) Anabel Medina & Jie Zheng (ESP/CHN) WR 49 by 6-3 4-6 [10-8] biggrin

*****

Final:  (1) Raquel Kops-Jones & Abigail Spears (USA/USA) WR 33 vs (4) Heather Watson & Kimiko Date-Krumm (JPN) WR 147

Our girl serving first
1-0
2-0
3-0 Woo!
3-1 Oop!
4-1
5-1 Having seen Ross & Colin lose a decent MTB lead in Shanghai earlier, my chickens are decidedly uncounted
5-2
5-3 Erk!
5-4 Zoiks!
5-5
6-5 Yay!
6-6 Rats!
7-6
7-7
8-7 Yes!
9-7 Come on!
9-8 Aargh!
10-8 Woo Hoo!

GSM Kimiko & Heather
6-3 4-6 [10-8]

Phew! That was close, considering:
They won the most poins in Set 1
They won the most points in Set 2
They won the most points in the match overall.

Heather, the darling of Osaka!

YESSS  !  biggrin

I imagine that it must really help going into the nitty gritty of a MTB, knowing you're already in the singles final tomorrow.  Well. you're now in 2 finals, Hev !

AFAICS Heather is thus the first Brit to reach the singles and doubles finals at the same event since Anne Hobbs at Auckland in December 1985 (the last occasion we had representatives in both finals was at the Singapore Open in 1990 - Sarah Loosemore lost in singles, Jo Durie won the doubles). Anne went on to win both titles, so hopefully a good omen

Very tough final as Kops-Jones & Spears are highly motivated, chasing points to squeeze in to the Tour Finals.

Wouldn't put anything past Heather and the Hometown favourite, this week though

Right, do I have the stomach to agonise through Annie K's Linz qualifier soon?

Fantastic stats, amazingly speedy with them. Quite an achievement then. About time we wiped all those records from the books

Heather's 4th doubles final of the year.

I'm not sure what's more amazing about that - the fact that is is the first time for 27 years, the fact that it looks like we posted that stat within seconds of each other (me at 10:50 on Twitter, you at 10:50 or 10:51 here) or the fact that we both agree on it - which is quite a relief because it makes me much more confident that it's correct and I didn't miss anyone!

Surely Michael-J should be on the Fox News website
