Laura Set 3 Game 1: Laura should have the momentum after that strong second set. Kai-Chen starts well, 0-40* Laura wins the next two points, but KCC holds from there.
0-1*
Game 2: Laura's 4th DF in the match (in her 10th service game) brings up *15-15, KCC adds a point to put on more pressure than in the entirety of set 2, at *15-30, but Laura wins 3 points running to hold.
1-1*
Game 3: Routine hold for Kai Chen, losing just the one point.
*1-2
Game 4: Laura's 2nd Ace of the match help her in a hold to 30, having lost the 1st point of the game. Very tight again in this decider, KCC having regrouped somewhat from the middle set.
2-2*
Game 5: A DF from KCC is all Laura can manage in this game. Chang is generally serving very well in the decider (82% won off 79% 1st serves), and thus Laura unable yet to mount the consistent pressure of set 2 that eventually proved so telling.
*2-3
Game 6: Laura's serving in this set is equally impressive (82% won off 79% 1st serves), as she holds to love with, 4 1st serves.
3-3*
Game 7: The oft touted crucial game 7. In this case, bam bam bam bam, hold to love. Getting tense now.
3-4*
Game 8: *30-30, and it's the most pressure on serve for a while, bUt Laura holds with the next two points. Still no BP opportunities for either player yet in the decider. Can Laura manufacture one here?
4-4*
Game 9: Into the critical stages then, and Laura has a sniff, 30-15*. Ace from KCC means 30-30*, big point here, and Chang gets it, and holds. Laura must serve to stay in it.
4-5*
Game 10: Chang is currently ranked 134th, has been as high as 81st, but there's been little between these two today, except for the 2nd set. Laura need to make her authority count now. She holds well, to 15, and the pressure swings back to Taiwan.
5-5*
Game 11: No quarter asked nor given in this decider; Chang holds in double quick time, to love. For a second time, Laura will have to hold to stay in it.
5-6*

What a quite extraordinary final set, such a pity the first game that either player really got anything much on their opponent's serve was Chang in the tiebreak.
Overall 97 points all. Each won 65/97 on their serve, and so 32/97 on return.
Really well done to Heather earlier, 2 wins away from a WTA title ! ( oh and usurping Laura as GB No 1 )
I do think Laura should call it quits for the season. She's done tremendously well. and I really don't see the point in chasing top 50 this year ( it will come next year, and more besides, whatever changes there are during the remainder of this year ), especially since she has been carrying some sort of minor injury for a few weeks and is maybe kind of played out. She can do without Barnstaple.
Have some rest and recuperation to try and get fully fit again and then put in some hard training including working more on the consistency of that serve ( though it has been much improved lately and particularly today ), and indeed moving towards turning it into more of a weapon.
She didn't really have a close season to work on her game last year and came out not really ready, and has done tremendously well to show such improvemnt later in the year. I wouldn't want her to hinder a full and effective close season this year.
