Vinci broken again so LDL is serving for the match at 5-0 in the 3rd ... Might be nerves but there's nearly a wobble at *40-AD against, deuce, Ad against again. And Vinci breaks back to finally get on the board for *1-5 serving next.
A surprise, as it's Dominguez Lino up next for Laura who took out Roberta Vinci 6-7(4) 7-6(4) 6-2 Vinci had showed fine US hard court form, including the title in Dallas. LDL only usually likes the clay, and hard court form is variable, but never outstanding. She must have found something to earn this fine win though.
Laura should be cautious then. But, still, a match I think she should win. It may well be very close though, especially if Laura has another of her slow starts.
I think one more win for Laura will leave her ranked 51st, maybe 50th depending on other results.
Several big carrots to focus the mind for the job against LDL then, as the reward would be: a chance to test yourself against A-Rad a chance for a first win against the Top 3 a chance to guarantee entry in to the top 50
However well Laura has inproved her ranking and however well Dominguez Lino may have played today, you can't ask for much more than the rankings, indeed associated players, of the her R1 and R2 opponents in a Premier Mandatory. Deserves it, though,, because on the whole in big tournements she has had pretty tough draws.

Yes, this is the first time in a significant tournament that a draw has opened up a bit for Laura, with the WC and Qualifier in round 1 & 2.
LDL won't be an easy opponent, at 31 she has lots of experience and is the type of player Laura has struggled against in the past (though less so recently). On the other hand LDL lost to Sharapova in the US Open without hitting a single winner, which suggests that she will be powerless to stop an in form Laura.
I remember last year around Roland Garros Heather had a habit of going behind early in matches before bouncing back and Laura is doing the same here. She can get away with it against the calibre of opponent she has faced so far but it would be nice (and less stressful to follow) if she could go back to starting matches well (which this tournament excepted Laura has generally done).
That's 5 qualifiers out of 5 through today so far and 4 seeds out of 4 going out ( Kvitova and Ivanovic got through yesterday ). Now if bye can do a job on Aggy Radwanska things will be looking really good

I would give Bye almost as good a chance of beating Radwanska as her second round opponent who came thorugh a WC v WC round 1 match up
I think that is the first time Kimko has ever lost to a British player and she has played most of our top players since 1988. I don't think she has yet played Anne or Heather but she has beaten Elena twice, Katie twice, Mel once, Laura once plus all our top players from earlier years such as Jo Durie, Monique Javer and Clair Wood.
