Having 16 seeds in a 25 woman draw seems a bit unnecessary.

Anyway hoping for a minimum of 2 through to the main draw with only one qualifying round to play.

I guess it's really more to do with the number of qualifiers, 8 in this case.  it is traditional in ATP, WTA and ITF to have twice the number of seeds as qualifiers.  i.e. you seed x to qualify for the x spots and another batch of x seeds to face them in final qualifying ( assuming that you have enough ranked players )

I don't know if they have to do it that way, but seems fine to me, even if here it then means the big majority of the draw are seeds.

Lisa beats former world no. 41 (in 2004) Schaul 1 & 4 to qualify

Samantha is serving for the 1st set again, now at *5-4

Samantha stops the rot by breaking to lead *6-5, then gets broken when serving for the set for a 3rd time. D'oh!

She is now a mini-break up in the tiebreak *3-2

Kristyna was the higher ranked last week, and wouldn't that be what the seeds were based on ?

Edit :  Yes, just looked at the rankings in the draw.  WR 104 is Kristyna from last week and it is she who is no 1 seed and facing Jade, and WR 113 from last week and no 2 seed is Karolina. Oh, and then noticed that the drawsheet actually lists the seeds' full names at the bottom. Trust the Pliskovas can work out which is which  wink

Sam lost her break advantage but has just broken again so will serve for the match *5-3.

I'm really impressed with how she's got back into the match after what must have been a horrible 1st set to lose.

Unfortunately, she has just been broken serving for the match while I was writing the previous sentence though.
