Nice try, Laura. Shame she had to miss Tokyo just to get the runner-up prize - she seems to play better against better players.

11 double faults. That's nearly 3 games! And many of the misses weren't near misses, they were half-way across the other side of the court or nearly to the baseline instead of the service line. Some work for her coach, there.

Close. 2 3/4 hours of fine effort, and a spirited fight back to take the second and make the third close.
It's good that there are still many things that can improve in her game - still much room to grow and improve, despite how good and competitive she already is.
First of many finals I'm sure though.

Superb effort!! But still fantastic to have a Brit in a WTA final after all these years!!

Hseih does look an awkward player to play against. However Laura did win 7? games in a row to win the 2nd set and go 3 up in the third only for Hseih to win 5 in a row.
Laura only got 50% of 1st serves in, a few more could have made all the difference.
It was certainly one of the best matches I have seen Laura play even if the final result wasn't the win we hoped for.
On to Beijing.
