RE: Week 38 - WTA ($220K) - Guangzhou, China - Hard

I'll miss the final as I'm out visiting my mother-in-law all day. Hope the Beeb can bring themselves to put some scores up!
Good luck to Laura - she's done really well to get this far. One more win would be fantastic!

Sounds like it was another really good performance from Laura, and certainly a great result ending the run of semi-final defeats for British women in WTA tour events. First British finalist for 22 years and youngest WTA finalist since last week. She just needs to get over the mental block at 5-1 up in sets now, though she does keep winning them in the end.

I have to go out at 10 tomorrow so hoping for a straight sets win (I'm expecting it to be close though). I had to do a presentation at a client meeting today which was very difficult to focus on when I kept wondering how Laura was doing.

As faults go, that's not a bad one to have

In both cases, this match and the previous, I felt her opponent really stepped it up and it wasn't just down to her 'mental block'.

Unfortunately I'll be away at work at that time tomorrow, and my laptop battery just isn't up to scratch at all at the moment. I'm thinking of asking the bookies opposite to show it on one of their monitors though !!! Presumably as it's on Eurosport the bookies will be able to access it.

Excellent news. She seems to have played pretty well, especially towards the end?

Perhaps the BBC can consider picking up the WTA contract for next year, as I believe it will be open at the end of this calendar year?
Would be a shrewd investment gamble, with an eye for red button coverage with. The potential to watch Laura, Heather and maybe Johanna in their strongest years, with hopefully good stories and coverage/ratings every month or so?
Perhaps ITV4, after they carried the French Open, are another possibility.
Realistically though, I fear it will just get added to, and washed out amongst the Satellite providers multifarious offerings though.

Best of luck Laura, and I hope she has enough left in the tank (and that shoulder) to at least do herself justice tomorrow. She's certainly earned it.

As far as the bookies are concerned, Laura is a strong favourite .. 2/5

This really reminds me of following Andy in his breakthrough period :)

You would hope, wouldn't you? But I reckon it's unlikely. I will be very pleased to be wrong!

Darn,  if she'd sometimes go for just a bit less, particularly on the first hit after the serve.  Great when it comes off, but not playing %s on that partioular shot.

2 - 2 *

Given the unpredictability of shot selection in Hseih's game in long rallys, I can understand her trying to end them quickly.

Yes, probably is the way to generally go to be fair.  It's more he execution at times ( and a strong shot in at worst is likely to leave her up in the rally ) and just a bit more composure.  It's good if they go in, was always thus  smile

3 - 5 *
