I'm afraid that had a certain amount of inevitability about it. In a physical match Laura still doesn't have the physical fitness to match the top players. The game at 5-1 in the first set was key as it made the first set a marathon one.
It had no ruddy inevitability about it at all ( excuse my language ). You yourself had her being "killed" in the first set when it came back to 5 all, but she still won that set and the second set looks to have been very competitive. As I've already indicated I'd far from rule her out now with her improved fitness, though I would make Peng favourite.
Inevitable on the basis that Peng was winning her games more easily and so there was also more pressure on Laura needing to hold to stay in the set.
The break was for the enforcement 10 minute heat rule between sets 2 & 3 when the Wet-Bulb Globe Temperature (technical, boring - humidity & temperature related) exceeds a certain value. With humidity today in Guangzhou at 84%, and 81+ centigrade - the break was mandatory under WTA STANDARDS C 6.a.i
My only worry is that if she burns herself out at this tourney, will she have enough left in the tank for the next where there are more points up for grabs?
