Oh dear. Not even mid-day on day one, and it's already carnage amongst the British contingent. By the time Johanna plays she might be just about the only one left in!
Just got back after a reasonably enjoyable day watching, although it was sad to see that (as has already been stated) Naomi just isn't the player that beat Barrois here a year ago and pushed Watson to the brink. It was nice to see her agree to have her photo taken later on with a young fan however, although she was clearly still upset. Good first set from Brown against Buyucackay, and a decent fight by Fitzpatrick. After the first set her accuracy disappeared and Coin's experience told, and a comeback from 0-4 to 3-4 in the 3rd was ultimately in vain.EWS squandered a 4-1 second set lead against Voegele but JoKo looked impressive with a good mix of power and angles, other than dropping her serve early in the 1st it was a routine win. Good luck to her for the rest of the week. The highlight of the day for me was Jeremy Bates commenting on my Stoke FC top in the restaurant!Amazing how a football shirt can help initiate a conversation!

I don't see the scores so far as really any worse than might have been anticipated. While clearly we hope for more.
