Marsalek's match was an absolutely terrific 3 hour scrap where almost every game was a tight affair. Roelofse took the first 3 games, James hit back by taking the next 5 games but failed to serve out the set at *5-4 and went on to lose it 7-5. Into the second set, first 6 games on serve, at 3-3* James misses a good chance to break, perhaps due to the frustration he goes 0-40 down in his next game, great play to get back to duece followed by two sloppy points and he is broken. Roelofse serving for the match, quickly reaches 40-15 but two stunning back hand passes from James keeps the match alive, 2 break points come and go, a third match point is saved before another break point arrives and this time James takes his chance. James still needed to hold to stay in the match and although he goes down 15-30 he battles his way through. Roelofse now looking frustrated, he knows he should be in the next round and not involved in a tough fight with a player who is now getting everything back into court, and not just back in, but into awkward positions as well. James breaks again and serves for the set. Again he finds himself in trouble, but with some timely big serves, break points are saved and the set is his. Into the first game of the decider after missing a BP chance it is duece, a fantastic lob gives James another chance to break. Roelofse again approaches the net and this time thinks he has done enough with his put away only for James to somehow get a racket on the ball and quite miraculous lob over the stunned South African. After that piece of magic James is walking round like he owns the court, his next service game is his best of the match, he breaks again and then holds again. At this point he is running his opponent ragged, seeming clipping the line with every shot. After 8 games in a row for James his opponent finally stops the rot but the hard work has been done and James serves out the match for a fine 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 win
Evo's win over Burton was as convincing as the score line suggested. He was as focussed as I have every seen him when playing a match at this level and if he maintains this form he will win the tournament. I was glad to see Burton get a good thrashing as he deserved it after his horrible on court behaviour in the first round on Tuesday.
Didn't see much of the Burn v Bloomfield match although it seemed to be very tight match that could easily have gone either way. Don't know why but Bloomers was extremely unhappy with the umpire.
When I left Corrie was a set up and 5 all in the second. Marie having survived a very lengthy *4-5 game in order to stay in the match.
Thanks for the report RJA. Always good to get some extra insight. Sounds like Marsalek is on a roll right now. Good for him. No news on his opponent yet as there are no results on the LTA or ATP sites so far. And as for the ITF site, they haven't even got yesterdays L16 results up yet. Why am I not surprised.
Disappointing to hear about Lewis Burton however - his behaviour, not his result. Have no idea if this is common place for him or whether it is just an isolated incident.

Yep, really good to see James pull off the win. Beating Goodall in round 1 was obviously a better result but in terms of points it did little for him. At futures level you really have to make the SF to get anything worthwhile. Not sure how far James can go in the game as he lacks the weapons to hurt good players but there is much about him to be admired. If some of our more talented players had his attitude they could really go places.
As for Lewis, I have never seen much in the past that has been a problem but on Tuesday he was a complete jerk who was shockingly disrespectful to his opponent. Josh Jones, who strikes me as pretty laid back and non-confrontational, refused to shake hands with Lewis at the end and I really don't blame him.
