RE: Week 34 British Tour - Sutton

Extremely odd behaviour from someone who is meant to be short of money and hoping for support from the LTA.  Having won the previous week's tour event, he must have known he was likely to make the final.  It would be interesting to hear his side of the story.

At the moment, having been avidly supporting him all year, I am very disilllusioned.

Not our place to judge as far as I'm concerned! He earned his spot in the final so can do with it what he wishes. Yes its not very professional to give unnecessary walkovers but its only a one off and at least he was honest rather than lying about an injury/illness.

Interesting that Fitzy has now tweeted that he was "honest all along". Adds more weight to my latest theory that the LTA accepted his entry already knowing that he was unavailable to play on the Saturday should he reach the final.

If that IS the case, then the LTA are definitely in the wrong and should pay out the prize money.

But there I go again - speculating without all the facts. I can be my own worst enemy at times !!

Hmm, it is me Fitzy tweeted a reply to, although of course it's public. I had suggested, as I said here, to take it as a lesson learnt. But I had just further replied that, as you indicate, fair enough if the LTA knew in advance of the tournament when he had to leave.

I was concerned that he might do himself no good with the LTA, but if he has a considered case then best for now left to them to sort out between themselves.

PS :  I note what RJA says, which is all the more reason that I'm saying no more, because we really don't know the full facts here.  It looked strange, and like others I queried it here and also with him on twitter. He's replied, but the technicalities as to how it all came about we just don't know.

By the way, I don't see any mention of doubles here on the LTA site, or maybe I'm missing something  confuse

Nothing on the LTA site about doubles but going by Fitzy's tweets there certainly was a doubles event.

I'm sure Tom Burn won't be too bothered by the walkover wink

Oh yes, just seen that Fitzy tweeted that he got to the final of the doubles so it surely existed   smile

Like you, I don't know the exact facts. However I am pretty sure that there will be some kind of "conditions of entry" which all players accept when they sign up to play a tournament and that these conditions would include something like forbiding a player to withdraw (after playing their first match) unless injured or having some other genuine reason. Simply saying, oh by the way guys I won't be here saturday, is no defence to having breached those conditions. If you sign a contract you are bound by it, even if you have verbally told the other party that you might not abide by it.
