A tough proposition, especially the two very strong, stable, & regular Russian pairings - both of whom can beat anyone else on the circuit. If Laura & Shahar click they probably have the best chance. Interesting that Peer (83) would choose to play with Laura (285).
ROBSON, Laura (GBR) / PEER, Shahar (ISR) 368 Vs. LISICKI, Sabine / PENG, SHUAI (CHN) 176 WATSON, Heather (GBR) / ERAKOVIC, Marina 106 Vs. MAKAROVA, Ekaterina (RUS) / VESNINA, Elena (RUS) [6] 28 KEOTHAVONG, Anne (GBR / TATISHVILI, Anna (GEO) 174 Vs. KIRILENKO, Maria (RUS) / PETROVA, Nadia (RUS) [4] 18
Looks like Laura's match will be pretty tough. The talking heads on ESPN were saying that Crawford is one for the future and has a huge forehand....I still fancy Laura to pull that one out.
I would love to see Jo do really well after her excellent effort in getting through qualies and her great effort at Wimbledon.
Horrible draws for poor Anne and Heather though....very disappointed.....
One Brit to get through and hopefully two....three and I'll be over the moon, but can't see that! We will know soon.
Heather seems to start points well but rarely goes on the attack after a good shot. Plenty of deep returns yet the 2nd shot isn't anywhere near aggressive enough. First set gone 2-6.
Aggressive serving from Heather early in the 2nd set. Li's errors give Watson the break but Heather soon down 15-40 and while she plays some great tennis to save those 2 bps, she loses her serve after a poor lob is smashed for a winner.
Heather playing ok overall. Rain 2-6 *3-5

Heather lost before I had even realised it had restarted again. Was always going to be a difficult match and she did OK.
In Heather's interview on Sky Sports after the match she said she wasn't too disappointed because she played well, but Li was just too good. Heather said she was pleased with how hard and deep she was hitting the ball, and her serve for parts of the match.
She also said that her ranking is too low to get into Mixed Doubles and after the US Open she will play a tournament in Canada then go on to the Asian tournaments.
Laura still some way away from action with the men's match 3-3 in the 2nd set. I assume Court 4 has floodlights or she might not get on at all.

Heather playing OK but not good enough to compete with an in form Li, who was excellent at the end of the first set. A shame Heather couldn't hold on to her break at the start of the second.
The rain is absolutely torrential behind the sky sports studio - it looked like bright sunshine when they started.
Was that 4 bps that Laura missed in the opening game of the 2nd set ? I went to put my tea in the oven. The dfs have started. Managed to avoid them in the first set.

Solid performance by Hev, could easily have wilted in the 2nd set after Na Li found her 'A ' game at the end of the first. The commentators keep going on about the fact that Hev needs to find more variety in her game in order to compete with the big hitters, and obviously that would be helpful, but still think she's not far off giving Na Li a much tougher match, serve working well today.
