Happen to be watching the Azarenka / Stosur match using headphones. What a RIDICULOUS noise she does make ! Made me realize how pleasant all Laura's matches were with no shriekers playing.

It does seem the ladies that are more put off by shrieking ladies
Must admit I have always felt able to concentrate on the tennis no matter what variety of sounds may be eminating from certain players.
Maybe ! I must admit I was impressed when Heather said she didn't even notice Sharipova shrieking when playing her. What a good example I thought. Although I notice it for some reason I don't seem to mind Sharipova's, but Vika, the other night, just totally overstepped my tolerence margins. Perhaps whether I like a player or not has some influence in determining my annoyance margins also. (Which is ridiculous on my part I know .
Im with Julia...Vikas isnt a grunt its just an outrageous method of distraction that she doesnt do in training and needs to be banned.
There is now evidence for the fact that a grunt inhibits your ability to interpret a shot.
Oh don't get me wrong, I'm all for getting rid if possible, more especially related to what you say here. i was just saying that I can still enjoy a match even with it going on.

Good point.
And lots of male players make a loud noise too, but the ladies don't seem to mind hunky Rafa's grunting; in the same way that us chaps don't mind the shrieking of Sharapova, Kirilenko and Azarenka.
Funny, that.

Ah I agree with you too then I appreciate Vikas hitting, shes a magnificent player and her mixed doubles gold showed she isnt just a ballbashing baseliner. Still, if she could reel in the shrieking I have no doubt I would become a fan, even if it is while she keeps Lauras #1 throne warm
I cannot have the sound up on either an Azarenka or Sharapova match, and there are others just as bad. In fact , I tend not to watch their matches at all as I find all the acoutrements of their games and mannerisms offputting. I wish players like Li Na, Sam Stosur, Marion Bartoli and Petra Kvitova were the ones dominating most tournaments, and constituted the very top ranks, as they are players, and people I can actually like. I find Sharapova and Azarenka fundamentally unlikable, almost haughty and condescending. No it's nothing to do with their appearance, as I find Ana Ivanovic very likable.
Luckily I think that all of our British girls are very likable, especially Heather. That said though I have had some feedback from people around the world about Laura's press conferences at the US Open. It seems most people really like her personality on court, but when some saw her press conferences, they found her a bit arrogant and dismissive. This was repeated by a number of people, mostly from Eastern Europe (Poland, Czech Republic, Romania and Russia) and, weirdly, Singapore.
As an asides, regarding being able to hear different pitches, this is a subject that ornithologists are currently investigating with regards to age. As most 'birders' are older, it seems censuses of birds based on the frequency of recogninsing each birdsong are being skewed because more elderly people don't hear some of the higher pitched bird songs so readily. The numbers of birds with those sorts of calls are therefore being under-estimated, even to the point where the species is thought to be endagered. When in fact that may not be true.
Fantastic women's final. Exciting, real ebb and flow, and some tennis of the very highest quality, from both players. Best women' GS final for a good while for my money.
