RE: Weeks 35-36 - US Open Main Draw

Quite nice scheduling for us, Heather and Andy will both be on televised courts and at social hours.

Lauras Im not sure about, there are good matches on that court though so perhaps, anyone know?

Potentially Laura v Hev in rd 3, but I suspect that might take a miracle!

And also Anne v Jo in Round 3  wink

Nice scheduling in respect of timings but disappointing courts, thought Hev would be on grandstand or better, and after every Crawford match in qualifying was shown on a televised court and even last years opener against a non seed for Laura was as well expected this 1R match to be, court 4 defo not a televised court.

Having watched every one of Laura's grand slam matches so far, it will be very disappointing if, as seems the case, her match isn't on TV - especially a match she has a good chance of winning.

At least Heather's and Andy's matches are scheduled at a nice time to watch.

Laura was practicing with Sharapova today on Armstrong and apparently looking quite sharp. ( Sharapova practiced with Laura pre Olympics and of course is playing a lefty in the 1st round)

Laura is also likely to appear in the doubles draw tomorrow playing with Shahar Peer.( will need a WC).

Women's doubles draw now up on US site, not been kind to the Brits to say the least, Laura and Shahar don't get seeds but get Laura gets to play Lisicki again. Hev and Marina get the number 6 seeds and the two Anne's get the number 4 seeds.

A tough proposition, especially the two very strong, stable, & regular Russian pairings - both of whom can beat anyone else on the circuit.
If Laura & Shahar click they probably have the best chance. Interesting that Peer (83) would choose to play with Laura (285).

ROBSON, Laura (GBR) / PEER, Shahar (ISR) 368 Vs. LISICKI, Sabine / PENG, SHUAI (CHN) 176
WATSON, Heather (GBR) / ERAKOVIC, Marina 106 Vs. MAKAROVA, Ekaterina (RUS) / VESNINA, Elena (RUS) [6] 28
KEOTHAVONG, Anne (GBR / TATISHVILI, Anna (GEO) 174 Vs. KIRILENKO, Maria (RUS) / PETROVA, Nadia (RUS) [4] 18

Laura's a much better doubles player than that ranking would indicate and I'd agree they have the best chance.

Re the other two pairs, not normal I moan about a draw, but that's grim.  Though Makarova and Vesnina may be a  bit wary of Hearina.

Of course I forget that singles players can enter grand slams with their singles ranking, so no need for WC.

Wow, interesting partnership! Wonder how that came to be.

Exciting to see how they do.

They were practicing together at New Haven and Peer's original choice Saurez I think is injured.

Good for Peer picking up an Olympics silver medal doubles player as a partner like that  wink

BBC Radio 5 Live just carried their US Open ˝ hour preview show, presented by David Law with Neil Harman (Times) & Barry Flatman (Sunday Times).

Nothing revelatory, but you got to hear new thoughts from from Murray (Andy & Judy), and a few other notables.

They also confirmed, at least, live full coverage for Heather's first round match on 5 Live Sports Extra.

For those interested, its now available now on iPlayer/Listen Again

Judy spoke very positively about Jo Konta's work ethic, and I've always thought that myself. The main reason why I believe she has a great shot at being a top 100 player. The perfect combination of work ethic, talent and a game that matches up well against the top players, gives her a great chance assuming she can stay fit.
