YES!!!!! Ridiculously happy for Laura. Played so maturely. Her serve has become A LOT more reliable, and better. Her movement has improved drastically. Plus her returns are superb. Whatever Krajan is doing..... he's doing it right! WELL DONE LAURA!
Great to see. She's playing so well as well. I've been critical of her before, as have others as she seemed to stall a bit after winning Wimbledon juniors, but she looks set to join the elites of the game really soon. At 18 she must be the highest ranked of her age group as teenagers seem to struggle to break the top 100 in recent years
She is the only junior ranked inside the top 100 (until a couple of years ago that would have been very unusual) with Annika Beck projected to be the next highest after the US Open at around 140
Great stuff from Laura. I'm in shock. I've been waiting for a breakthrough from Laura but not on this scale.
On Jo Ko. Very dissapointing BUT the US open and Wimbledon shows she's at least a top 100 player and i really like her attitude not looking at what anyone else is doing but lookign at improving herself. Would be nice to see her sneak into AO MD but quallies may do her some good at the start of the year.
I was thinking Laura would struggle in that third set but it was actually Li Na who faded away while Laura got stronger and stronger. She must have so much confidence right now to be able to do that.
Looking forward to Sunday already and the chance to see Laura try and beat a third grand slam champion.
For me the thing she has improved the most is her footwork - it used to be so lazy.
Impressive now she can keep up her level of play. She used to play matches where she was on fire for the first few games and then wasn't able to keep it up. Now she is working her way into matches instead.
I am stunned. I thought when Laura lost the second set tie break that was it. But !!! Fantastic response from Laura, OK Li Na was not on form today but Laura played incredibly well under pressure. No I don't expect her to win her next match but I didn't expect her to win the last two either.
As an aside I bet this is making Heather sit up and take note, she'd been in the ascendant recently but Laura has really stolen her thunder at the US Open.
Not only was her serve more solid but her backhand looks hugely improved. Today it didn't look the obviously weaker side, more that the forehand is simply brilliant. I've had my doubts these last few months, particularly because she can often get so negative. Her attitude was the most pleasing part of the last few days for me.
As for Joko, I can't see how anyone could be disappointed. She's moved up a level this week. She's now very clearly playing at a top 100 level which she wasn't doing before Wimbledon. Fantastic tournament all around. Now Andy just needs to win it!
Wow, fantastic! I had computer problems that I have only just solved, so I missed all the excitement. I just caught her presser on Eurosport Player, she seems so grounded and mature for her age.
Wonderful that there are three strong young GB players doing so well (and several more right behind them). Hope that they can inspire each other onwards. It's lovely that they all three come across so well, too.
Laura. What a super result. I have to admit to fearing the worst when she lost the tie-break - oh ye of little faith. Another scalp to take next round.
I was disappointed for JoKo, but not with her performance during the tournament.
