RE: Week 34 - WTA ($220K) - Texas, USA Hard

A mini-break but Anne has one match point left, this time on Erakovic's serve (which might be a better chance under the circumstances)

A df from Erakovic gives Anne another chance and she seems to be in charge of the point, but to no avail.

They're like French players, determined not to win, it seems - Erakovic (who is clearly the fan favourite here) messes up again but Anne's 4th (?) MP goes begging.

Then she gets a 5th ... please put this away ...

Serving on her 5th match point ... sadly you can guess the rest by now. 9-9

The other serve gets broken too and Erakovic has a match point on her own serve

Keothavong nets a 2nd serve return and goes ballistic because she thought the serve was miles out

Commentator says she missed 4 match points, not 5, by the way - not sure which of us was unable to count (probably me)

Please... 2nd serve... No! FH long from Anne.
6-6*
Another DF from Marina!
*7-6
MP #3... No! Good defense from MArina in a point Anne seemed like winning.
*7-7

UE error Marina.
*9-8
MP NUMBER FIVE! Forehand long by Anne - shouldv'e had that one really.

Long from Anne. No!

MP #1 is all Marina needs - but it's a very controversial end with Anne shouting repeatedly at the Umpire about the final call, and not shaking Erakovic's hand - yet.

Hard to tell from an internet stream on that last call but looked like the line calls were upsetting both players at the end of the match

I'm heartbroken.

So sad. She plays like someone who doesn't believe they will win

I made it 5 MP's for Anne.

An unsavoury end.

Anne obviously angry about the final point, and at least two other calls, but probably more at her self.

Set 2 and three she should have won the match I think - glad I didn't see set 1. What I saw Anne looked better than in quite a while (Olympics excepted) but consistency and an ability to stay ahead once getting there seem to be lacking.

Feel deflated now. cry
