Set 2: Game 1, a lucky net chord for Yanina, and a Heather DF give Yanina two BP's. Wickmayer goes for bust on the first trying wildly for the return winner, and fails similarly on the second after a short rally. Heather's groundstrokes starting to fall consistently short now as the Wickmayer power begins to really tell. Yanina eventually takes a fourth break point - pushing Watson back further and further on the court.
0-1*
Heather plays a great game to set up two break back points, a lovely service return winner, a really good wrong footing backhand and a forced error with a cross court BH in to the corner ....
And the stream went down. Russa frussa frussa....
Heather broke back, on a third break point. Heather playing her most consistent and threatening tennis so far.
*1-1
NB: In the WD - Anne 1-5* / EWS 2-0*
Heather edges ahead - she improves as Yanina fades a little.
2-1*
Game 5: a bad miss, FH long by Heather at the net with an easy put away means *15-30. A good Yanina drop shot sets up her passing shot for a BP at *30-40. Heather tries an ill advised drop shot in return on the BP, executes poorly, and Yanina gobbles up the easy opportunity, to break.
2-3*
Stream quality improves massively all at once!
Heather forced in to going for very difficult winners in rallies, can't make them. The forehand is also starting to go long regularly, even when unforced.
Crunch time!
*2-4

Watson deals well with another Wickmayer venture to net, firing the ball right at her advancing feet as part of a routine hold. 3-4*
Wickmayer's serve and FH doing all the work really both been pretty consistent and effective.
*3-5
Questionable call on point 1 of game 9 goes against Heather, but she holds with some good defensive rallying, to force Yanina to serve it out. Come on Heather!
4-5*
Excellent return on point one and nice combination for 15-0*. Wickmayer classy down the line, 15-15*. UNforced Hetaher FH long, 15-30*. Yanina dumps a poor Watson lob into the bottom of the net. 30-30*. Heather forces a BP as Yanina goes inexplicably wide on her FH, 40-30. Good putaway Yanina 40-40. UE Heather brings Match point #1. And it's taken, as Watson puts a BH into the net.
R1: WATSON, Heather (GBR) 70 lost to WICKMAYER, Yanina (BEL) WC [4] 30 3-6 4-6
Some good things from Heather - she always fights hard, and served well throughout against the WR #28.
However, the serve though consistent has little bite, and there is still the tendency to drop in quite a few UE's in general rallying.
As with Laura, you feel that they are 'quite' close to solving the puzzles these higher ranked players pose, but they need a few more pieces before they get there. Heather possibly needs to be able to end points more easily.
Hopefully it'll all click soon to allow her to continue progressing.

Thanks very nuch for the commentary although it didnt bring the right result I get the impression that both players played to a reasonable level, just that Wickmayer's reeasonable level is a bit better at this stage than Heather's and more incisive with a few shot choices going wrong for Heather too.
Heather not being "able to end points more easily" remains what she clearly lacks compared to Laura, but Laura would have taken "served well"
briteny. Heather's next tournament is the US Open next week
