RE: Week 33 WTA Cincinnati (hard)

Radwanska beats Lucic 6-2 6-2, so will be Laura's next opponent.

Chan's previous service solidity disappears and Annie takes the second set. Good work. I honestly didn't have faith that would happen. Gladly hang my head in shame.

6-4

Anne slips behind again, as CHan converts a second break point for the early initiative in the decider.

0-1*

Their respective scores suggest Laura will have to up her game for tomorrow. Radwanska is about as tough an opponent as it is possible to face in a WTA qualifyer, being ranked in the top 50 and with good recent results.

Good to see Anne battle back and take the second set. Less good that she's been broken already in the decider.

Disappointing that Anne couldn't put up more of a fight in the third set after the first two seemed pretty close.

Wonder what's up with Anne, glad Robbo pulled through.

I remember Anne losing to Chan at the US Open a couple of years back in 3 sets. Afterwards she described Chan as a wall that hacked the ball to death. I think Chan is the type of player that frustrated Anne into going for too much and maybe frustrated her into a collapse at the end...

I watched Laura play Radwanska in Shrewsbury in 2008, she ran rings round her, 3 and 3 I think. Radwanska was hurling her racket at one stage and accusing the linesmen of favouritism towards Laura. I fancy this time will not be so easy but let's hope she can repeat the feat....

Not a good start, Laura is broken in the first game with 2 double faults not helping matters

Laura breaks back straight away. I sense that both players are yet to get in to their stride.

Game 5 - a marathon game of either 12 or 13 deuces (I lost count).

Laura faces 5 more break points, two of them provided courtesy of yet more DF's.

This time the first serves go in almost regularly, but, ultimately, it's still not enough to prevent another break. 35+ minutes for 5 games played. Kinda glad this ones not streamed.

1-4*

A quick hold for Radwanska. When her fist serve goes in, she wins the point. Laura is lucky that today Urszula can't serve for toffees, otherwise this scoreline would be even uglier than it currently is.

*1-5

A Robson hold!

2-5*

Laura at least shows some fight, saving two set points to recover one break - she is starting to improve a little here. Can she hold again though?

*3-5

No! She can't.

And that's a pretty chastening set. Urszula is not playing well, but still took that easily.

It felt like a set in which, for the most part, Laura beat herself.

6-3

Good start to 2nd set. Recovers from 40-0 to eventually break, winning a couple of points off first serves too!

Naturally as I wrote that she df
