Week 33 WTA Cincinnati (hard)

Not to be left out, Anne repeated the feat: faced 2 BP's at *15-40 in game 6, then won 4 straight points to hold.

3-3*

Chan breaks to 30. Come on Anne, pretend it's the Olympics. If I could do one thing for British tennis, I think it would be to go back 10 years and give Anne masses of confidence and self-belief.

3-5*

2 BP's again for Keothavong at 40-15* in game 9, but again, nothing to show for it.

Chan takes the first set pretty routinely.

3-6

I think this type of coach will get Laura into great physical shape and get her movement up to scratch. Its something he did well with Safina. May be thats what Laura is looking for right now?

Anne converts a BP in game 2 of set 2 - her first of six so far - for the early lead.

*2-0

But, she hands it straight back

2-1*

On serve.

*4-4

Anne fights off 2 BP's at *15-40 in game 9, and another for a creditable hold from the fifth deuce.

There is much more pressure on the Keothavong serve though - Chan only losing one point in total from her last three service games.

5-4*

Oh dear, double break. Tough now for Anne.

0-3*

Not giving up entirely without fight though - had a BP in game 4 but couldn't take it.

*0-4

But, Chan, breaking again, completely at ease now, winning 75% of points in the third set, and looking for the bagel to seal the deal.

0-5*

After the good fight for the second a strange capitulation from Keothavong in the decider. I find Anne so frustrating to follow at times - I wish she played as well as I think she can, sometimes. Also, this was a good chance wasted, as her next match would have been eminently winnable too.

Q1: Laura ROBSON (GBR) [19] 89 beat Vera DUSHEVINA (RUS) 107 6-2 3-6 6-4
Q1: Anne KEOTHAVONG (GBR) [13] 78 lost to Yung-Jan Chan (TPE) 101 3-6 6-4 0-6

Q2: Laura ROBSON (GBR) [19] 89 Vs. Urszula Radwanska (POL) [2] 46

Indeed! Laura seems to have steadied (as she serves another double fault ) and seems the better player in the points as a whole.

She takes the first set - good work, however scrappy.

6-2

Anne's match has been scheduled next for Court 7. Hopefully Laura will have won by the time that starts.

And so you should. Laura wins at the same moment Anne starts.

Probably not her best but a win is a win, especially after being broken whilst serving for the match.

Well done Laura, not pretty but she got the job done.

From the scores it looked like Dushevina had the edge at the start of the 3rd set, but I was hoping the fact she had lost her last 5 matches compared to Laura's recent good form might come in to play at the end and maybe it did.

It was Laura's first hard court match for several months and probably difficult playing in front of just a few people after the Olympics so hopefully she can push on now for the rest of the hard court season.

Assuming it's Urszula Radwanska next that will be an interesting match, two young players in good form.

In game 5 Anne had two BP's at 40-15* but couldn't convert - Yung-Jan Chan winning the next 4 points to hold.

*2-3
