First set to Johanna 6-1

Second set the same 6-1

R1: KONTA, Johanna (GBR) 220 defeated ELBABA, Julia (USA) WC 834 6-1 6-1

A routine win, as expected. Next, she'll likely play Erika Sema [7] (JPN) 129 - the girl that Johanna beat in Lexington in that almost 4 hour epic. HOpefully she can beat the odds again.


Can't see the result of Em's Qualie yet though she was on a match before JK.

Naomi on court in about 10 minutes with a real test.

As expected, Oprandi breezes through the first set against Naomi. 2-6

And the second, 1-6. Oprandi did indeed "have Naomi for breakfast".

Naomi/EWS doubles is much later in the day - Johanna's next singles is not until Thursday.

Pretty poor loss in the doubles too for EWS and Naomi.

Naomi BROADY (GBR) / Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (GBR) 521 lost to Macall HARKINS (USA) / Zoe Gwen SCANDALIS (USA) 1443 4-6 1-6

EWS MD R1 match is today along with Johanna's doubles match. JK R2 singles is tomorrow.

Em lost her round 1 MD in a close match

R1: WEBLEY-SMITH, Emily (GBR) Q 407 lost to HSU, Chieh-Yu (USA) 351 2-6 6-3 5-7


Johanna lost her doubles, slightly disappointingly having taken the first set:

Johanna KONTA (GBR) / Chieh-Yu HSU (USA) 583 lost to Eri HOZUMI (JPN) / Miki MIYAMURA (JPN) 958 6-2 4-6 [3-10]


So, all that's left from 3 singles and two doubles is Johannas R2 singles tomorrow against the girl she beat in R1 in Lexington:

An excellent straight sets win for Johanna.

R2: Johanna KONTA (GBR) 220 beat Erika SEMA (JPN) [7] 129 6-2 6-4


It is Scholl in the next round. Chi Chi is coming off a good performance in Vancouver 100K last week where she made the semi.

They played on Hard in 2009 in Belgium, with Scholl winning the 3rd set breaker. Time to level the H2H then! I think a win will see JK break the Top 200 for the first time.

Much better scoreline, congrats Johanna.

I think this match is close, Scholl in good form but so is JoKo. Could be an exciting stretch if Johanna can maintain this level going into the USO qualies.

Sad but hopefully just a precaution so she's fully fit for US open. With a decent draw i think she can qualify
