Couldn't agree more, Spectator. Inverdale has his annoying moments, but he showed genuine sensitivity to Purchase's & Hunter's palpable misery & commendably put them out of it. In fact, he appeared to be fighting back the tears himself, but they were in such obvious distress that I defy anybody to have remain unmoved by their sense of having let everybody down, which they hadn't, of course. It was disappointing, but they'd clearly given their all & we spectators couldn't have asked for more than that, even though it wasn't quite enough to defend their title from Beijing & win them the gold.
