goodall no2 all points nearly from itf futures doesnt seem to step at challenger level. not convinced that he will progress much. listened to lloyd at wimbledon dont think he rates goodall
He's now got a ranking that would see him seeded at a good proportion of challengers - so he's got a better chance of picking up some wins - most of the recent challenger 1st rounds that he's lost have been against higher ranked opponents.

Saw his match, or at least parts of it. Both him and Dan - especially Dan were showboating, and giving the ref greif like baby McEnroes. As we've seen with Andy Murray, that's not helpful. Josh seems to like being king of the futures castle, not the small fish in the much bigger pond of challengers.
going by tweets it looks like goodall is now going to step up to challengers, tbh i think he has made the right decision
About time too, he's abit old to be playing futures. Sadly, I don't think he's going to get much higher now as he's almost 27.
The young-uns Greg was looking after looked much more promising though. Very impressed by Kyle Edmunds, only 17, game and attitude, and Oli Golding - more game than attitude, though nowhere near as bad as Dan who I heard today got a fine.

Yes I am not surprised by that. He would have probably got away with his constant complaints about bad calls, and to be fair the one line judge was hopeless. However berating the umpire for giving you a gentle warning over swearing, and angrily telling him to give you a code violation instead, is seriously pushing your luck.

I heard quite a few players (men and women) complaining about bad line judging this fortnight, is this normal for the LTA? I'm not surprised that players argue and get irate about it if it is, however there are levels and as you say Dan pushed them this week.
I spoke to quite a few tour parents, and regular spectators, and not one had a good word to say about his attitude.

As I have said before I think that officiating at this level is pretty poor (although I do accept that it is not an easy job) and many of the players clearly have little confidence in the officials. I actually thought that the umpire in Goodall v Evans match did a pretty good job but he was badly let down by a line judge who made a string of mistakes and while the umpire overruled on a few occasions he was understandably reluctant to make overrules on the far side line.
As for Dan, well I could write an awful lot about him. I actually think that his attitude is much, much better than it used to be and a lot of people do hold the antics of his earlier years against him. That being said he really did push it against Goodall and deserved a fine. In his defence much of his anger is really directed towards himself, as much as he criticised the officials he was fully aware that his own failings were what lost him the match. I have said before that I think he struggles for motivation and concentration when playing at this level and the anger is probably an attempt to fire himself up, he is one of those players who probably needs a bit of anger to play well so will always be in danger of going a bit too far. He desperately needs to get away from the British futures scene, if he get back to top 250, or even 300 I would have him consistently playing challengers or even ATP qualifiers (he plays better against better players). If he can't get to that level soon I think there is strong case for him looking to play futures elsewhere as the familiarity of the British scene does him no good whatsoever. All in all it is a great shame, you make a good case that Murray aside he is our second most talented player, he has the skills and variety to his game that many of our other players who hover between 200 and 400 do not have. At 22 he still has time to make a good career but at the moment he is not making anywhere near the most of his substantial talents.
I guess I've kind of given up on the current batch - notable exception of course being Mr Murray, but am exited about our up and coming teens. However only time will tell if they will make it, and it would be good if they were away from the arrogance of the current batch, and got a better work ethic. Mr Rudsedski having to phone them to see if they were coming down to brekkie after he's been to the gym is frankly ridiculous, as was the way some of them were strutting around as if they were world beaters.
