James Ward injury

Nick Lester reports:

"Am told James Ward has fractured his wrist after falling in Newport whilst practising a couple weeks ago,out of American hard court swing. Due see a specialist today but fair few points to defend after winning Vancouver this time last year, rough luck"

Awful news if true cry

that's not good, we saw his initial message and i got the impression it was more a sprain so if it is a fracture that would surely put him out for a while, how long would you expect it would take to heal and get enough strength to play?

Which wrist, I wonder? Presumably the right wrist would be a bigger problem than the left.

Ward put a photo up on twitter, it's his left wrist, so not his playing one thankfully. Normally it's around 6 weeks, but with tennis athletes i suppose it might be longer. Out for US Open Q's i think.

Horrible when its totally avoidable :( Poor Wardy.

Wishing him a speedy recovery. I agree about 6 weeks for recovery and then he should be ok to start pratising

As a non sports person but with experience of breaking my left wrist - it will depend on whether he has 6 weeks plaster or the operation to splint it internally as to how soon mobility is regained. The latter that involves less plaster will give mobility quicker.
