RE: Week 30 - ITF ($50K) - Lexington, USA Hard

A good set all in all there for Johanna, strengthening as it went on.
Hoping for a straightforward two-setter tonight.
Already just about an hour on court though.

And here I was thinking I was the only one still up! (working, but had just checked for JoKo's result at the right time!)

Yes!
6-4 6-2
An excellent win against a player who won her last tournament on similar courts a fortnight ago.

A shame in some ways to do this in a week where it will be swallowed up in the Olympic maelstrom.

But, I think that win sends her above Naomi in the rankings? Already an excellent weeks work.

Next opponent is a big step up in class.

Misaki Doi [4] (JPN) WR: 127 CH: 102 (June 2012)

But, having already beaten the Japanese #2 seed, there's certainly reason for hope.

She's fought really hard all this week.

Well played Johanna!

I think its pre-Olympic adrenaline keeping me up! Doi is good and upcoming, but then so is Joko.

Will be an excellent measure of her current level, which judging by that win is quite high!

Yes ... yes (she's also sorry to have missed the Opening Ceremony!) ... and not quite.

Naomi: 261 + 14 to add from last week's QF - 8 to defend from last year = 267

JoKo: 240 + 32 to add from this week's event so far - 8 to defend from last year = 264

Thanks for the clarification. Very close then. Hopefully the competition between the two will drive them both on to push up towards the four in front.

5 Top 100 this time next year? OK. OK. I'll calm down!

Great win against an infrom up and coming player there.

It's good to see Johanna using her close run at WImbo in a positive way and not faltering. I think we may be starting to see Johanna make her move to try and join the top 4 over the coming few months.

JK keeps up her record of serving a DF in every one of her opening service games this week. She saves a couple of break points before tying things up.

1-1*

Johanna has 2 break point chances in game 5, aided by a Doi DF earlier in the game, but Doi pulls through.

*2-3

2 more break points in game 7 for JK, consecutively this time at 40-15*, but they both disappear in a hurry, and Doi pulls through again. Johanna holding her own so far against a player ranked over 100 places higher than her - the total point split is 50/50.

*3-4

Doi secures two break points in game 8 at *15-40, thanks in part to a JK DF. Doi takes the second of them for the first break of the match at a crucial moment in set 1.

3-5*

Doi Takes the first set - a slight lag in the live score means that the final game of the set is over in seemingly a second.

3-6

Jo had the better chances in the set, but couldn't convert, let's hope she rectifies it in the second set.
