Little quote for you from my match, i asked the umpire in the 3rd game 'where did you see that serve land' after i felt he missed a serve long, in a polite manor, i got no responce. i walked up to the centre of the court and said 'did you see it hit the back edge of the line?' he said 'oh yea back edge, what do you want a grid reference' 'just get on and play' Sums up the level we deal with, if i spoke to an umpire like that i get fined, they speak to me like that it ruins the match and nothing happens.
I can't quite see the point in asking the umpire where the ball landed. What you are REALLY saying is: "I thought the ball was out."
To which the obvious reply would be: "I thought it was in. And my opinion counts for more than yours."
So why bother? It only winds up the umpire, as was clear from his sarcastic reply. And there are rarely any positive outcomes to winding up officials.
And this altercation supposedly "ruins the match"? Oh, come on ...

You've got to feel a little sorry for the Mexican Sanchez, playing over here in attrocious weather and by the sounds of it appalling courts. Why on earth he's playing in Britian rather than somewhere in the America's or Europe I don't know

So, 7 Brits (3 of them WCs!) and a kiwi in the QFs!

Just did a little checking through US university records. As far as I can tell the multi-year "All American" players in the last five or six years have been Inglot, Corrie, Skupski (K) and Skupski (N), of whom Inglot and the two Skupskis received honours in both singles and doubles. (Not necessarily in the same year. In addition, Ashley Watling was also "All American" in doubles this year). Looks as if the honour may be a good predictor .... which leads one to wonder ... is Skupski (N) intending to play further at all?
Unfortunately, the kiwi threat to there being a British winner here still hasn't been extinguished:
QF: (WC) Tom Burn WR 1045 beat Oliver Hudson WR 1096 by 5-7 6-0 6-2 QF: (WC) Josh Ward-Hibbert UNR lost to Marcus Daniell (NZL) WR 758 by 6-1 3-6 7-6(3) QF: Matt Short WR 769 v Alex Slabinsky WR 1140 - no result yet QF: (5) Ed Corrie WR 548 beat (WC) George Coupland WR 1390 by 6-7(3) 6-1 6-2
