Such a shame. But so much better than the last two times

A decent effort from Laura, without quite living up to the efforts of last week. She will now have quite a bit of a break before the Olympics, which might quite good for her to get a bit of rest and some good training in ahead of the American hardcourt season.

AMG takes it in two straight sets.
For the most part though, it felt like it could have been much different. Laura either playing good points and winners, or inexplicable unforced errors - no middle ground.
8 DF's in 11 service games and countless fluffed ball tosses, like last week. Something awry seems to have crept in to her service action.

Frustrated because you can see it's all just about there ready to work fluidly for Laura, and, as yet, it never has quite consistently, despite her good run in Palermo.

Hopefully she'll get well rested and re-calibrate the serve for the Olympics, and still good work in the last week.

I know she lost, but everything is just starting to come together piece by piece. The serve is up and down obviously, but was brilliant during the grasscourt season so that is not a worry( apart from a few too many DFs). Extra consistency off the ground and better movement is allowing her to stay in the point longer, giving her more baseline points. AMG couldn't harm her at all, just Laura was a bit below her level from last week. As I've said before better fitness will allow her to maintain her level for back to back matches and unable her to retain the power for longer during the match.

Time off I think will be good, not sure whether she will practice on grass or hardcourts for the week or so.

The ball toss problem comes and goes( had it for about 18 months now), believe it or not though its still not as bad as it was last summer.

On the bright side, if her team can sort this out, she'd shoot up the rankings!

The serving issue is, at least in part, due to the taping on the underside of her left forearm. She must be hurting there and that will be affecting the wrist action on the servce causing her to hit long.

Yes, she is competing really well with this serving hinderance.  If and when she can take real strides to sort this out and indeed, even better, make her serve an asset, the future could be so good.

Looking at the way the draw panned out "if only" Laura could have won that first match...
Early morning wishful thinking perhaps...
