Girls: AEGON Junior International Edinburgh - Grade 5 (Week 28)

In a draw full of Brits 2 of our strong 13 year olds made their ITF debuts today in style. Georgina Axon and Anastasia Mikheeva both won in straight sets, the latter against the German 5th seed Anastasia Reimchen. Also successful was third seed Anna Brogan, while one of our successful European Summer Cup team, Gaby Taylor, makes her ITF debut tomorrow (Maia Lumsden is playing a top TE14 event)

No results as yet, but I can see from the oop for tomorrow that Anna at 14 is the oldest semifinalist (joined by Jasmine, Anastasia and Georgina), so a great week for the youngsters

It looks as if we may have another special talent on our hands with Miss Mikheeva

Don't forget about Axon, who's only 2 days older than Mikheeva.

I remember seeing an LTA blog with video about a junior comp in France (I think) a couple of years ago and thinking then that Anastasia was one to look out for in the future. Even at that young age, she looked totally committed and, to her contemporaries I would imagine, not a little scary! A kind of young Bally, if you like ...

yes, we've got nothing after heather and laura (perhaps except for Dean). so we will have to wait to see whether any of the talented 14/13 year old girls develop.

heather and laura will be in their mid 20's before they are even remotely challenged for gb no.1 or 2 imo.

Yes we seem have a large group of talented girls aged 14 and 13, and who's to know at this stage which ones will turn out to be the best. Obviously Mikheeva gets most of the media coverage, but the others are not far behind and could easily overtake her in years to come.

We've had a bit of a drought after Hev and Laura bar Eleanor, so this is a really positive development.

Yep potentially another Bally, and I'm sure I've read somewhere that Bally believes Anastasia to be better than she was at this age.

SOme impressive stuff from the young girls.

Have to say i'd rather see them do well here over 17/18 year olds.

We do seem to have a decent grop of young girls. Lets hope they all can do well and continue to develop

The score suggest comfortable semi-final victories for both girls:

Anna BROGAN (GBR) [3] 6-2 6-1 Jasmine Amber ASGHAR (GBR)
Anastasia MIKHEEVA (GBR) 6-3 6-2 Georgina AXON (GBR)

A 14 match winning streak for Anastasia in the last two weeks.
