Rubbish report on Beeb website, just 'she won by' basically. Abit pathetic for the biggest win in her career, and correct me if I'm wrong the biggest scalp by any Brit.

And they still managed to fit in a mistake in such a short report. Laura was never 5-3 down in the second set.
Woo Hoo Hoo!! Back to back victories against the top 50. First WTA semi. Wonderful news. Well played Laura. Plays Zahlavova-Strycova next. I think that's winnable too

When was the last time we had a Brit to a WTA Semi-Final? Let alone on clay ... I'm reading that it was AnneK in 2010 Luxembourg.
Anne got a WTA semi-final last year losing to Niculescu in Luxembourg having qualified. She reached Warsaw semi-final on clay in 2009 losing to Alona Bondarenko I think. I'm not sure how many WTA semi-finals she has reached though... is it 7?

Not wanting to get toooooooo far ahead but ... we've not had a WTA Winner since 1988, or so I'm reading.
April 28, 2010 - TheTennisWriter. Today marks the 25th anniversary of the last fully British female to win a WTA Tour Singles title. On 28th April 1985, 18 year old Annabel Croft of Great Britain, ranked no.83 at the time defeated world number 7 ranked Wendy Turnbull 6-0, 7-6(5) to win the Virginia Slims of San Diego and her first WTA Tour Title, causing much excitement amongst the British press. The young British hopeful never rose to expectations caused by this victory and failed to win another title before quitting her professional career in 1988.
Monique Javer won a WTA Tour Singles Title in 1988 in Singapore but was only half British.
Not sure why the Tenniswriter omiitted this:-
In July 1988 Sara Gomer won the Aptos Title, a $50k event.
Anne has lost all her WTA semis and Bally hasn't reached any, if I remember right, so yes, it has been a long time.
If Monique Javer was playing for GB at the time, there is no 'half' about it - not any more than Laura is part-Aussie, anyway. LOL
The last Brit to win a WTA main tour singles semi-final was Jo Durie, who beat Anne Smith in the semis at Newport on 21 July 1990 before losing to Arantxa Sánchez Vicario 7-5 in the 3rd in the Final.
That Aptos title you mentioned was not a main tour event.
