This match was following a predictable pattern, Laura starting well but then her experienced opponent started taking over the game.
But then Laura started cutting out the errors and being more patient in the long rallies and turned it around.
I did think victory over a top 30 opponent was coming for Laura, but not on clay. She has channelled her Wimbledon disappointment in the best possible way.
Its a damm shame the draw hasn't opened up, clay specialist CSN next, who was impressive today. Laura was completely dominant in that match, and it was just whether she could keep her composure which she did, really dealt well with Vinci's sliced backhands. Got to alot of dropshots as well, also played a top dropshot herself, nothing to be critical about.
CSN is brilliant, will use lots of clever spin and make Laura play a lot of balls.
Laura needs to keep her groundies at the same level they were today and be prepared to do a lot of chasing. Its not an unwinnable match but logic dictates CSN in straights
I hope i'm wrong but I can't see anyway in which robson will win this match. Every time there is a rally Vinci will win the point. Robson has a lot of power but poor movement, and she still seems to make very poor shot selections.

Glad you were wrong!
Yeah me too :)
To be fair I started watching the match after the first 4 games at the worst point of the match for Laura. But after that she was brilliant
This sudden improvement in her movement has basically come from nowhere. I started to see something tangible at the Fed Cup, but today Vinci was hitting decent dropshots which Laura would have been nowhere close to getting to this time last year. It justs gives her so many more options, mainly that she doesn't feel she needs to hit a winner off every shot. I wonder whether as well subconsciously she didn't want to have to go through US open qualifying again, which gave her further inspiration.
I'm hoping Laura can keep up her record of winning on my Birthday today. Her previous July 13th wins have been against Tammi Patterson and Fran Stephenson at Woking though, so today's match is a bit of a step up in difficulty.
