Week 28 - Challenger (€30,000 + H): Timisoara, Romania (red clay)

QR1:  (q4) James Marsalek WR 651 vs BYE

****

FQR:  (q4) James Marsalek WR 651 vs (q5) Fabian Patrutescu (ROU) UNR

The Romanian is ranked in doubles (1511), but has apparently never had a singles ranking!  In fact, according to the ATP, he's won a total of precisely $220 from his singles & doubles activities combined! disbelief  A nice, soft option for James?  Hope so!

Well it was 6-2 *4-1 to Marsalek when it disappeared off the ATP scoreboards so not entirely sure what happened, one would presume he won.

Wondered about that myself, Tennisnow.  Either a win for one for James - or rain stopped play...! wink

Here's a turn-up for the books:

R1:  Alex Piposi & Razvan Sabau (ROU/ROU) vs Niko Karagiannis (GRE) & James Marsalek

Should be winnable:  according to the ATP, Piposi is "inactive" &  has won a career total of $128 in singles & doubles combined & is thus unranked, while Sabau has a career-high doubles ranking of 179 (on 22-02-06 - he's 35) & won $1,493 from his doubles activities so far this year.

11 service holds but now in the 12th game, Konecny has 2 set points ... 1 saved ... both saved ... but Konecny gets another and takes it.

It didn't get any better for James in the doubles:

R1: Alex Piposi & Razvan Sabau (ROU/ROU) defeated Niko Karagiannis (GRE) & James Marsalek by 1-6 6-2 [10-3] cry
