Our strongest team of 1998s start the season of European Summer Cups trying to qualify for next week's under 14 finals, which serve as qualifiers for the World Junior Team Cup in August
They open today as top seeds in their group against Serbia, and Sam Ferguson has won the opening singles. Jay Clarke, ranked 1 in Europe, is due to play the top singles
The finals start today and we have drawn third seeds Turkey, which on paper looks a favourable draw. Sam won the second singles comfortably, and if we win either the first singles (Jay) or doubles then we will be in the semis plus qualify for the World Junior Tennis finals in August
Our campaign to defend the Junior Davis Cup starts tomorrow in Spain. The first step is to qualify for the European Summer Cup finals, and the team of Peter Ashley, Joshua Sapwell and Alex Sendegeya are unseeded in that quest. First up is the useful looking Romanians, seeded third, who include last year's TE numbers 1 and 3.
The under 18s start tomorrow in Slovakia with a team of Jonny O'Mara, Scott Clayton and Clay Crawford
The defence of the Davis Cup ended on the first day. Romania looked to be strong opponents, but I expected a close contest. Unfortunately Romania ran away with the two singles, and winning the doubles provides little consolation

What do we think about Peter's progress? On the face of it he seems to have staled somewhat in the last year.
Peter's progress has been steady, not spectacular, so has been overtaken by a number of 96s. Of more concern arguably is the lack of progress made by Josh who ended his TE14 career ranked 2 (Peter was ranked 7). Injuries may have been a factor, and he retired today in a consolation match against Serbia.
