Yes, Bally's win against Bondarenko was on Court 1, and I cannot think of any Centre Court wins since 1993 (Bally had a real chance against Sabine Klaschka, but had a back-fence day - otherwise it's been mainly the occasional R1/2 match against stars , so 1985 is entirely plausible)
Ah yes, I remember the Klaschka match where to say Bally couldn't find the lines would be a massive understatement!
tony orient is right, of course, that most of the ladies' singles matches involving Brits on Centre Court since 1985 would have been against top 10 players and that getting on there to play a late evening 'Court TBA' match gives the best chance of a win.
1985 was the last time Jo Durie reached the 2nd week (a year after her appearance in the QFs) and it's conceivable that she wouldn't have got on Centre for R1 or R2 wins after that. I'm a bit surprised that Sam Smith didn't get on Centre for any of her first 3 matches on her run to R4 in 1998, but I've just found a quote from her after she upset Conchita Martínez in R3 saying "Hopefully now I'll have a chance to play on a big court"!
I'm hopeful that this 'first time since 1985' will be followed by a 'first time since 1987' (though that would need all 4 of the remaining GB women to win tomorrow) and a 'first time since 1986,' but we'll have to wait and see!
