Deep joy, a long old rant with a couple of tennis fans this afternoon.
One asked, so how do you equate with certain matches being played indoors under artificial light versus some being played outdoors with rain delays
and failing natural light

There have been some new issues thrown up since the advent of the roof.
Obviously the ability to offer guaranteed tennis to the TV networks is a big financial hit.But some of the other issues are distinctly hazy.

"Stopping after 11 is a tennis decision" Huh how come ?

I'm really interested to see how these issues are discussed and explained.
Fed was not happy with playing 'indoors' so there is both the players and the organisers perspective to be considered.

Wait with interest to see how it unfolds over the next year or two.

It isn't a tennis decision. It is a condition (imposed by the local authority) of the All England Club's licence to hold sporting events.

I'm happy with that as an answer RJA but that was the statement made by Wimbledon head honcho on 5 Live this AM.

Comentators said 'so what does that mean' answer not forthcoming.

Just found this in a newspaper article:

 

Wimbledon chief executive Richard Lewis yesterday said the decision was based on common sense and that the agreement with Merton Council, which controls the local borough, is based on the understanding that once the 11 oclock deadline is reached, then it is a tennis decision to get them [the players] off in as fair a way as possible.

The reality is that public transport (train and underground) will have a 'last train' which will not be that late (because Wimbledon is the end of the tube line). If you finish much after 11, you'll have a massive problem of people who can't get home easily and who are not familiar with London (as they are visitors). They will then be 'stuck' in Wimbledon waiting sporadic night services/taxis.

Having attended big ents in Central London which ignored their 'end at 11' rule - it does create absolute chaos!

 ... not to mention the fact that if they come from a big city outside the UK, they'll be stunned to find the tube shuts down as early as it does disbelief

Not a pretty first set but gets the job done. Looking for an improvement now.

So it's just after 8 and effectively tennis is finished for the day.

It would appear that neither I nor Wimbledon have a clue what their position is with regards to Centre Court & the roof.

It would have been possible to put the Murray match on Centre Court to finish for instance.

But at the moment if you are scheduled for Centre you have an advantage that is immeasurable.

Sorry this issue may exist only in my mind. But what I have always enjoyed is the clarity of tennis rules, even if someone ends up disadvantaged by them.
Now I don't feel there is any clarity and I'm huffing and puffing in my own personal hell !

I could be watching Andy right now for instance. But Fed & Novak are safely sorted and Andy remains in waiting....

They should have put the Gasquet/Meyer match on the centre court so those who play on Wednesday would be playing against people who had last played on the same day.  Whoever wins the Gasquet/Meyer match tomorrow will be at a distinct disadvantage against Djokovic on Wednesday.

Everybody would be better off. Another 35,000 people would have the pleasure of a day at Wimbledon. A global TV audience would have the option of a few hours of enjoyment. All the staff at Wimbledon would earn some more money. Britain's GDP would be increased.

The arguments against? Religion? Giving the grass a rest? Tradition? COBBLERS!

 The arguments against are in respect to local residents. 

Personally I would play the first and middle Sunday and create two new days.
