All that said, I am absolutely delighted that Marray won! So lovely to see someone who works so hard with so little notice do something really spectacular. And presumably this means he can go to Wimbledon via the Last Eight Club for the rest of his life .....
Thanks for the comprehensive explanation, Spectator. Warms the proverbial ****les. It's also in stark contrast to the attitude of the Williams sisters, who, according to the former head racket-stringer at Wimbledon, Liam Nolan, in Monday's Times, refused to sign a couple of T-shirts all the other players were signing, presumably to be auctioned later, as part of a campaign to raise money for a children's hospice. He's quoted as saying that they were the only two who refused "because they said they had not got enough time" & that he disliked working with them because "they are very horrible people"! I find such an attitude quite extraordinary, given their humble origins.
I decided to quote a couple of snippets from your reply because I was intrigued by your final paragraph. What on earth is the Last Eight Club? Actually, I think I can guess how players become members from the name, but I've never heard it mentioned before & wondered what precise purpose it served.

RBBOT: I beg to differ! Singles quarter-finals = four matches involving the last eight players standing. Doubles semi-finals (men's, women's or mixed) = (inevitably) four teams, therefore, likewise, the last EIGHT players standing.
Regrettably, my spoken Danish is pretty nonexistent ... but if you are OK with Danish, the interview as a whole looks good. Danish TV also did some interviews with Nielsen and Marray jointly, which are in English. Quite an interesting one talks about their strategy for beating Karlovic and Moser. And there are buckets of articles in the Danish press.
