No British qualifiers, but a good effort from young Jasmine, upsetting the 12th seed and pushing the top seed Jelena Ostapenko (ranked 41)

Eleanor has indeed not entered the grasscourt tournaments. The qualifier who Harriet plays is ranked top 500 WTA, as is the seed who Katie plays on her return to competition

Yes, just checked the draws to put the opponents for Liam & Harriet on the top 25 tables and thought I recognised the name Abduraimova! Didn't you (or someone else) say the other day that they do take WTA rankings into account if they are in the top 500? It seems crazy if they don't - they could easily have had Abduraimova drawn against the top seed in R1, when her WTA ranking is higher than the top seed's! confuse

Taking into account ATP/WTA rankings is quite complicated. Boys ranked in the top 550 are seeded, using a comparison chart (eg someone ranked like the Uzbeks in the low 400s would be seeded after the 4th ranked junior boy). However there are a lot of junior girls ranked higher than that, or would be if they chose to play mainly Pro Circuit events. So  Abduraimova needed to be ranked inside 350 WTA to earn a seeding.

Boys ranked between ATP550 and ATP700 and girls ranked between WTA350 and WTA500 are guaranteed acceptance into the qualifying tournament only (unless their junior ranking allows direct acceptance). Hence Abduraimova was unseeded in qualifying here, and the only British seed (Ella Taylor) had the dubious privilege of playing her in the first qualifying round (Ella managed just 3 games).

If you look at the drawsheet (on the LTA site) you will see one player has been seeded because of her WTA ranking - Daria Gavrilova (ranked 196 in Juniors but inside 250 WTA)

Excellent win for Lana over the world no. 59, but heartbreak for Pippa and a rude reintroduction for Katie

Bains is the one who spent her early life in england, there was an article a few years ago criticising lta for letting her slip through their fingers

An impressive round 1 score for Harriet against the Uzbek, but she lost a tight one in round 2. Katy similarly close to a career best junior win, but eventually lost.
