.... or maybe it is. Latest cryptic tweet: "Off to eastbourne tomorrow, to hopefully not play, gunna be an interesting day!"

So maybe something about Eastbourne then? Or she'd only play Eastbourne qualies if she didn't get a Wimbledon QWC. Or she was told she'd get a QWC for Wimby or Eastbourne and now she's been told she has to play off against someone for it. Hope it works out for her whatever it is.

She seems to know in this interview that by winning at Nottingham she put her Wimbledon chances at risk

After my comments yesterday about local papers and inaccuracies, that's a very good, accurate article!

Lisa is quoted as saying "I dont think Ill be getting anything just because I cant make the play-offs," she said. "If they did that for everyone there wouldnt be enough to go around" which is very realistic of her, but as things have turned out, there are 2 spare QWC places (perhaps even 3 if one of the Brits who currently has a QWC gets moved up to the main draw to take Heather's MDWC) and only 2 players (Lisa and Jade) who missed out on the playoffs for the best possible reason, i.e. by winning matches against much higher-ranked players.

The LTA have just tweeted that Katy Dunne beat Emily 3 & 3. I certainly didn't see that coming!

I wonder why Katy doesn't play more ITF events. I watched her take the 6th seed to three in Bournemouth early in 2011 and she clearly had a good allround game and would beat quite a few ranked players.

Maybe she's still at school and concentrating on that at the moment.

No, and given that of the 4 possibles (i.e. Lisa and Jade, who did too well in other tournaments to take part in the playoffs, and Emily and Fran, the two losing (semi-)finalists in the playoffs), the first 3 have got QWCs in Eastbourne, it looks possible that none of them have got them, since if any of them qualify in Eastbourne or get delayed in qualifying by rain, they wouldn't be able to play Wimbledon qualifying.

Then again, with all 8 qualifying seeds in the top 100, they are unlikely to qualify (while if they do, the prize money and points are probably worth more to them than an outside chance of getting a decent Wimby Q draw and getting any points there) and the weather forecast for the next few days is much better (so if any of them do get Wimby QWCs, there isn't much chance of them getting caught out by the worst case scenario of not getting through qualifying in Eastbourne and having to give up the Wimby Q place), so maybe them playing in Eastbourne doesn't mean for sure that they haven't got Wimby QWCs as well.

If they didn't give Wimby QWCs to any of those 4, who would they give them too, I wonder? confuse

Sad that Emily WS wont be involved in Wimbledon this year. She's a real big game player, took Zakapalova (sp?) to 3 sets last year at Wimbledon 1st round and her only other Wimbledon appearance she reached the 2nd round and took the seeded Amy Frazier to 3 sets then too. This previous form and recent injury woes should be taken into consideration when distributing wild cards do you not think?

Part of me thinks they should take injuries into the equation but ultimately I think they should pick the players based on a combination of most likely to win and would benefit most from the experience.

Heather has now got direct entry into the main draw so that should free a wild card.

Will they give it to a brit though?

I guess Mel would be the most likely candidate. I would rather see Mel in qualifying though where i know she could win a few rounds and possible come through.

I would like to see Lise and Jade get into qualifying though

There was a press report that Tara might get it ... I can see arguments both ways, I just hope it goes to a Brit and the remaining QWCs do too, since there are plenty of Brits who haven't got QWCs yet who are more than capable of bagging 40 points given a halfway decent draw.

So 3 Main Draw Wildcards left, one will obviously go to Oudin but i am hoping that they dont just give wildcards to the next players in like they did for the mens last year and the year before and there have been no other other outstanding players to award a wildcard to, so hoping for more brits to get them. Saying that though I am kind of on the fence for Tara or Mel if they are given one as I think they could win a few rounds in qualifying and even qualify for the main draw and bag themselves some big points.
