Great win for Bloomers, who will now overtake Evo next Monday, meaning that unless Oli or Liam 'do a Wardy' at Queen's, all of the GB top 6 will be aged 25 or over!

Edit: or Ed Corrie wins this event, but even he's 24

Richard drew Bury so a good draw, will miss the WC play-offs if he wins though. Bambridge plays Bossel.

Josh v Kyle is 1st on centre with Luke 3rd and Josh/Luke doubles 5th. Ed 1st on Court 4. These matches will on the live streams. Bloomers 3rd on Court 5, Dom/Jonny 4th on Court 1.

Wasn't Richard nominated for a WC last year but got refused by the Wimbledon folks so not sure he would play in the play off?

Unless I missed something I would seriously doubt it. Bloomfield won a round a few years ago, which is more than most have, so I doubt he would be refused a QWC

Maybe alleged so by LTA but nothing supported this!

So what does he do this year - throw the match, points and the potential winnings and try to get to London in time or carry on regardless?

There were multiple match points on Mertl's in that 12th game of the 2nd set - this is being streamed on bet365 btw.

Oh dear, this (what would be a) career best ranking scalp is proving hard to close out - Mertl wins 7 of the last 8 points to take it 7-4

Absolutely super win for Ed, even if he couldn't serve it out in the second! wink    All credit to him for holding his nerve for nearly three hours, even though he was serving second in the decider (& had to save match points!

L32: Jan Mertl (CZE) WR 182 lost to (WC) Ed Corrie WR 594 by 6-7(5) 7-6(4) 6-7(4) biggrin

H2H is 1-0 to Bloomers against the former world no. 29, a straight sets win, albeit in a junior event in Haifa 12 years ago!

Bloomers has been one of our more successful players on grass (Wimbledon R1 win, Newport SF, Manchester Challenger Final) over the years and won't now be able to play in the wild card playoffs simply because he has won 4 matches in a row and is still playing here, something which will also lift him to GB no. 5 above all the Brit under-25s.

On the basis of rewarding success then, surely he deserves one of the 2 open QWC places that are still left after 2 players get in from the play-offs, doesn't he?(or as someone suggested when I tweeted this, maybe even one of the open main draw WCs, but I haven't heard any farmyard animals oinking as they float past my window recently! wink)
