^^Fantastic.
It's a shame I was unable to go. Would have been nice to meetup with everyone.

So frustrating that at least per Google news and a quick trawl of non-gated sites, only Daily Mail covered the remarkable wins in B'ham. Wouldn't mind, except non-coverers generally (though not uniformly) are far faster to run stories about "pathetic" Brits who don't go beyond first round at Wimbledon and "shouldn't have been there." Sigh.

I've just looked at this! how embarrassing, I recognise philwrig - if that's you 2nd on the right - I was the person who asked you to move out of my seat!! near the beginning of Laura's match.  I'll say hello properly next time!

I'm coming tomorrow after 4pm if the weather's OK, and then Thursday daytime, again assuming weather OK, I'll look out for you guys!

This is only the 3rd time in the 31-year history of Birmingham WTA that 4 Brits have reached R2 - 1982, 1985 & 2009 were the others.

Unless I missed something when I trawled through, there have never been more than 4 Brits in R2 before - so come on Hev & Bally!

Yes, your name did come up Steven, as we were sitting there  watching the 5th win taking shape

Now what about 5 or even 6 in the second round of any WTA tournament ?

^^^^^^

Steven's researches confounded by no less august a source than the LTA web site:

It is the first time in the history of the tournament that five British players have made the second round at Edgbaston Priory Club. wink

Let's make it six, Bally, !

Benesova should be fined for lack of effort against Tara, she wasn't even trying. Sorry if that takes something away from Tara, but it's the truth...

Anne punished the weak Paszek serve well, but her own serve went AWOL towards the end of the second set which is why it was so close.

Sam played well enough, she is a decent baseliner. Only breaks of the match were at 4-5 each set. Perhaps Sam could play a more agressive game style, she seems phyically strong enough?

Just caught the end of Mel and the start of Laura, both were serving well. The only break in the final set of Mel's match came when Mel at full stretch just got the return back, Lucic moved in for a drive volley and then decided to leave it and it landed on the baseline.

I forgot to take down the number of where Sally was sitting, I had my eye on someone I thought was Sally but looking at the picture above it clearly wasn't her. My fault but I only made a last minute decision to go today.

Jankovic broke back and has just held serve for 4-4 in the 2nd set.
Mel clinging on now; about to serve at 5-5

Jankovic wins 6'1, 7'6(3), looks as though Mel put up quite a fight in that 2nd set.

Moore v Dellacqua up on livescore now.

Great to meet up with some 'forumites' yesterday and share tennis chat - thanks for your company JuliaCarrot, Philwrig and Priesty.
Sorry to have missed you Wolf; I remember you from Tipton so had I known you were there could have kept a look out.
As it goes I didn't end up in the seat I'd booked so, erm, that confused a couple of the others too.

So good to watch the girls getting through and I hope the overnight 'stop' will help Bally get her game back on track and make it 6.

I'm having trouble viewing the OOP for B'ham today; maybe my computer doesn't like the LTA links but it's not been a problem before. Can anyone else see it?

Thanks for OOP!

Jankovic took the first set 6'1 but Mel is fighting back and is 3'0 up in the 2nd.
