Has anyone seen "the Last Samurai" before ?

I think it came out in 2003, it was shown on ITV on Wednesday. I recorded it, though stupidly, I used a 3 hour tape and so it came down to one of the most dramatic scenes in the film, the Samurai last stand; and just at that point, the tape stopped and rewound. I am so pissed off about that, lol.

I thought it was a pretty good film, it did well at the box office when it came out but had mixed reviews in Japan and was slated in the States for some reason. It's loosely based on the 1877 Satsuma rebellion. The Japanese said that the producers has researched that period of Japanese history well but didn't like the portrayal of the Samurais who are regarded as a corrupt regime in Japanese history but the film showed them as a noble race

They are very gory lol. True horror stuff.

The basic premise is that people wake up and they are in some sort of situation that tests their will to live. ie, at the beginning of the 2nd film, a guy has a device attached to his head that will crush his head if he doesn't use the key to undo it. Problem is, the key has been surgically implanted behind his eyeball and he has to gouge it out. Pretty horrible eh? I would recommend watching the first 2 films before you watch the 3rd for sure. Great films, but you will cringe at times.

I'll check out the first two films, should be able to borrow DVDs from the local Blockbuster.
