Great win for Anna over a player whose game would seemingly suit grass. Solid from Em and Lisa and encouraging from Eden and Lana.

The main draw is lopsided from a British perspective with just Bally in the top half (a potentially tricky match against Aussie Casey Dellacqua). Anne is seeded 8 and plays the other Pliskova twin, and could meet Laura in round 2 (provided she overcomes Brianti, who froze spectacularly against Azarenka this week). Naomi tackles second seed Hsieh, and could play Heather in round 2 (who has a qulaifier) Mel and Tara face off, while Sam has a qualifer

Some interesting draws.
I think Naomi might be in with a shout if her serve is working, and then she might face Heather (but she will be playing someone who has already played 3 grass court matches, so no guarantees there either).
Brianti certainly played well for a set and a half against Aza, but not sure about her grass court game. Wouldn't bet against a re-match for Laura against Karo Plisky 'cause Anne seems to a bit fragile at the moment.

Order of play released for tomorrow - no British girls in singles action (apart from anna in qualifying) but Laura & Heather plus Tara & Mel against Anne in the doubles provide some useful grass court practice.

Tough match for Bally and Anne (given the way she's been playing). Great chance for Mel or Tara to pick up points though. I've seen a few Hsieh matches - solid but not spectacular and not sure how she'll cope with an hot serving Broady on grass.

Ah. Still a bit of a scalp though. Tara is playing with Mel, against Anne & Abigail Spears who are the #2 seeds.

 

Laura is playing with Heather against Monique Adamczak AUS & Erica Sema JPN and they are now 6-3 5-3*
