I had thought it was unfortunate that both Brits were in the same section so couldn't both qualify, bit sadly that has turned out to be completely irrelevant because neither of them has made it to QR2 let alone the FQR:

Q1: SOUTH, Melanie (GBR) 2 318 lost to YONEMURA, Akiko (JPN) 382 by 6-4 7-6(4) bleh
Q1: MURRAY, Samantha (GBR) 6 356 lost to YAMASOTO, Aki (JPN) 510 by 3 & 5 bleh

Emily should be in the main draw, with Fukuoua 50K QF points to defend from last year, while Tara is due to join the Brit contingent here next week.

"Bombed out 1+2 today.Bad day at office to say the least!I've played the best 9sets of my life in practice in the last wk+have been feeling .. great...so it's ridiculously frustrating to put in a performance like that on the matchcourt. Only one thing for it-head down,keep working."

A real pity and just one of three pretty awful results in the Far East this morning - I wonder if jet lag is a factor and, as for James Ward in Taiwan recently, they might do better in the later weeks of the trip.
