Well done to Oli his first professional tourny victory.
Hopefully now he really kicks on and moves up a gear. :)

A match it was a pity both couldn't win (!) but well done to Oli on his first Futures title. Hopefully he'll rise about 100 places into the top 550 on Monday week and Fitzy about 50 places into the top 500 after an excellent week for both.

In the first 17 weeks of 2012, GB men have won an ATP singles title and 11 Futures singles titles between them - compare that with just 3 Futures singles titles in the first 22 weeks last year! (they then won 18 in the next 24 weeks)

Of course, part of the reason for the improvement is Challenger-level players like Ward and Baker dropping down to Futures level and winning titles, but it's still very encouraging during what tends not to be the best half of the season for the Brits.

Well done to both. First of many, one hopes, to Mr Golding. As for Mr Fitzpatrick, I make that one title, one (close) final, one semi and three QFs so far this year ... out of nine tournaments. Is that correct? Very impressive.

With that result, Fitzy could become @tennisfitzy after a bet he made with Anna, although I hope they both keep their current names for the sake of continuity.

2 points from Edinburgh QFs coming off on 14 May then another 1 for Newcastle R2 on 21 May, so he hasn't got much coming off - I think I may have said that when he had reached the QFs, so he had only covered the Edinburgh points at that stage. Apart from those 3 points, he has nothing more to defend in the first half of 2012.

Tweets in from Fitzy:

Lost 76 64. Tried to play with my hand but it got progressively worse and just couldn't play to a good enough level to win. Too good.

had a blister since quarters and its just got worse. Was roar and bleeding on my grip today, couldn't grip the ball. Frustrating
