I think psychologically it was a lot to deal with for Konta, with the nationality change on top of her first rubber. Added to that the fact that her ranking was close to her opponents despite being heavy underdog, the home crowd and the large stadium, I think Jo will be dissopointed but relieved its over.
Judy will select Jo again because I don't think she will want Jo to deem her performance a complete failure and knock her confidence. Anne and Bally are both struggling with injuries anyway so it's not as if she's experimenting with her selection. I'm confident Jo will be a different player tomorrow and will really take it to her opponent.
I believe that if Laura can beat Paula tomorrow then Jo will be playing for sure but if Laura loses then I think Anne could possibly play. (I've also heard Anne has been winning against Jo quite comfortably when playing practice sets this week. Whether that is true or not I don't know)
Is there a particular time that GB would have to settle on who is playing 2nd singles or can it just about be left to the last minute ? Not that you want to leave it that late.
Last minute ... or last 11 minutes anyway! The players in the 4th rubber can be changed up to 10 minutes after the end of the 3rd rubber.
murray, if JoKo ends up playing singles again tomorrow, I am sure it will essentially be all to do with her being considered the best player to play the 2 v 2 match, so that we maximise our points scoring chances from that match and the doubles, which is what matters. That consideration will I am practically certain come before considerations of playing her so as not to seem to deem her performance today as some sort of failure and / or so as not to knock her confidence. If Anne is thought the better alternative ( or more unlikely, Bally ), she will play.
I am really glad that we seem to have such pragmatic captains as Leon and Judy, who are not really effected by the array of off track reasons for choosing folk for the Davis and Fed Cup matches that have been expounded on this board in recent weeks.

Jo started very nervously but Ormaechae was on fire, then Ormaechae lost her way, Jo grew in confidence and started to make a match of it. The key was the start of the second when Ormaechae was still struggling somewhat and Jo had the opportunity to really cause the upset, but sadly she played a very poor couple of games which allowed her opponent to regain her best form and then she went to win comfortably. Jo was not striking the ball as well as she was at Wimby last year and really was dominated when Ormaechae was playing her best tennis. I can't conceivably see how Jo plays tomorrow as I worry if it gets tight which it probably will do that she will tighten up under the pressure. Anne for me has to play.
Laura played very well but within herself and she continues to show that she can move very well on a clay court, uses alot of short quicksteps to get into position to hit the ball and because of the slow surface she has the time to play solid groundstrokes. Serve still a major issue, as Sky were keen to point out in their post match analysis. The score probably should have been a little closer but Laura was pumped just like last year against Sweden and was pretty merciless.
Thoughts for tomorrow:
If Ormachae plays at her best level for the whole match a big if, I think her match against Laura is too close to call, but if she doesn't I fancy a pumped up Laura to sneak it.
The other match is a toss of a coin probably whoever plays and I don't envy Judy when it comes to picking who should play that match, I just wouldn't risk Jo.
The crowd was loud but fair and our lot made quite alot of noise. Liked the way Laura complained to the umpire about the noise whilst she was serving, which resulted in her warning the crowd to be quiet, it worked perfectly.
Also half the time during commentary Sam Smith was trying to make out that she was actually there which of course she wasn't, don't know why they try to do that.
Yes, Phil, I would be a bit surprisd uf JoKo ends up playing the 2 v 2 matches based on how her first match went and accounts of latter practice against Anne, I suppose though, presumably wanting to team Anne with Laura in the doubles will be some factor in the consideration.
Good that the crowd was loud, but fair. I was far from convinced about any liklihood of them being unsporting.

What crowd?????!!!!! It's always hard to tell the size of a smallish crowd in a massive stadium, but if it was over 2,000 I'd be amazed. Not intimidating in the slightest as it turned out.
Yes there was regular cheering and clapping of GB double faults as I feared, and some warnings about calling out before serves, but generally the public was well behaved, and nothing remotely like the scenes in the recent Argentina-France DC match or even worse the Spain-Argentina DC match a few years ago - both of which were male dominated crowds in much greater numbers. All over the top testosterone fuelled nonsense.
And I loved the team speech Judy gave at the official dinner - very positive atmosphere between the 2 teams, and the Argentinians seem to have been nothing but superb and gracious hosts.
