Week 17 - Challenger ($50,000) - Savannah, GA, USA - Green Clay

Boggo should be in the main draw here. Chris drew the short straw in the qualifying draw unfortunately.

QR1: Chris Eaton WR 506 v (q1) Mischa Zverev (GER) WR 180 (CH 45 in 2009)

H2H 0-2, both in straight sets on surfaces Chris prefers - Cardiff 2006 & Wimbledon 2007.

That said, Zverev has lost his last 4 matches, starting with his loss to our old friend from DC, David Goffin, in the Le Gosier Final.

Short staw it certainly was:  I think Chris lost by something like 4 & 3. cry

Not a bad effort by Chris given the opponent and the surface - I feared he might get hammered (6-0/1/2 something like that)

One player who did survive QR1 was Estonian WC Taavo Roos. Why do I mention this? Because he was a regular on the MTF (I think it was MTF, anyway) BOTB/pick 'em team in the early days. This was his first match on the Futures circuit since 2010 - not sure if he had been out injured or at college somewhere.

Doh! I meant to say Pro Circuit - i.e. he's probably been playing some matches in the meantime but not Futures or Challengers.

Not possible, Count: he's just lost by 2 & 4 to the Aussie, James Lemke (q5)! wink  I suppose a LL could always open up & let him in, though...

Where did Boggo pick up the extra letter?

Hmmm. Williams is yet another of the recent college graduates -- he was a practice partner for the US Davis Cup team in France (according to Zootennis) ...

this will be a tough one for Alex, even at his highest ranking he was never really doing much on clay, whilst his opponent has obviously come through 3 Q matches and has had some decent results this year.

so far not so good, 0-30 (DF along the way), 2nd serve and 3bp's.

1 saved, but that is all and it's even again.

Boggo had a few BP's but couldnt convert, Rhyne serving at 3-3.
Good 1st serve % so far for alex, hopefully he can maintain it.
