SF: (1) James Ward WR 150 beat Matthew Barton (AUS) WR 581 by 3-6 6-3 7-6(3)
The other semi is due on court next.
Given how he did in the summer and autumn last year, it's amazing to think that the 15 points James has picked up this week are as many as he picked up in the first 16 weeks of 2011 combined!

A good start for James, breaking to win the first game, but it has gone rapidly downhill from there with Barton breaking twice, the second time to love, to leave James down 1-3*

In the 1st set, James was pegged back to 4-4* from *4-1 up but eventually took the 1st set 7-5. He was a break down twice in the 2nd set (Moriya even served for it) but he eventually got into a tiebreak and won it to take the title

27pts is very worthwhile in its own right but hopefully it has got him warmed up nicely for a top level challenger next week. In fact, hopefully these tight wins have done wonders for his confidence overall, he's still nowhere near the heights he has hit before, let alone pushed on from them.
27 is his fouth highest points scorefor the last 12 months. Only good enough for a ranking increase of around 5 places, but he will still have four zero pointers and six where he has won less than ten. Results like this are a great way of preventing his ranking falling off a big cliff ih he can't defend his points from Queen's and Vanvouver. These two tournaments make up over 50% of his total.
